I'm a reformed DVD collector. I used to have over 250 DVDs, but then I sold about 200 of them once I realized that collecting DVDs is a waste of money. Online rental services (I use Netflix) are more economical, and high-definition DVDs of all of the films and TV shows will eventually replace the regular DVDs. At this point, I only buy 1) DVDs of films/shows that I can't rent (ie extended editions or really obscure stuff) or 2) DVDs of films/shows that I actually enjoy watching over and over and over (there aren't many).

P.S. Yeah, regular DVDs will play in HD-DVD players, but a DVD collector is going to want the HD-DVD edition of a movie. It's the collector mentality.

I primarily buy foreign discs of movies I have no other way to see or movies that I'm even surprised made it to dvd in the first place. and most of the crap I watch won't matter if it's in HD or not.

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade. As long as you enjoy your collection, then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I do feel like people should think ahead though...when I worked at a Suncoast a few years back, VHS collectors would come in and whine fairly often. One lady was cussing the entire time she was walking around the store. It was pretty funny actually.

I still actually own and often watch stuff on VHS as well. I'm more the type of person who just wants to be able to see a movie period. it doesn't have to be like perfect aspect ratio and THX Dolby 5.whatever sound and all that jazz. good quality, sure. but I'm not gonna buy the same movie a hundred times because they keep improving the dvd (ie Evil Dead 2).

That's good. I've heard that there isn't going to be that much of a difference in video quality between DVD and HD-DVD anyway. The difference between VHS and DVD is supposedly much greater.

Post anime collection
Hey, if anyone is interested in filling out their anime collection, let me know.

I do design work for an anime DVD retail site and I get paid in DVDs. I have a ton that I'd like to get rid of.

Just to let you know, though, that these are HK boots...however they are bootlegs of US releases. They all have US dubs and subs and perfect picture quality -- but in a nicer package and all self-contained.

If you're interested, PM me and I'll let you know what's for sale and price -- but most will be $4-5 a disk.

Thanks!

KW
