That clear mini head is great. Not at that price but it's still great.

Good call! . . .. there's still a healthy market for 'em over on the darkside! :D

The RxH Rainbow Chaos or an SDCC '06 freebie 'Baroness' Dummy + a $30 box set Dummy of a DJ I've never heard of from the same time = no brainer!

$70 retail woulda been nice but it didn't happen . . . c'est l'vie!

We've all been this desperate/excited before, Scary, for a brand new release, it happens. I've regretted it though, only once am I glad I jumped at an inflated price right after something hit because it went higher and never went down, but all the others HAVE shown up cheaper and those are the ones I regret. The ones I said "Damn, shoulda waited!"

But, again, we've all done it. Tis the game we play.

But somthing again to bear in mind about it showing up later and being cheaper is that- if you had not bought it at first you would be an extra person in the loop bidding on it and pushing up the price again, so it might not end up much cheaper.

-hope that makes sense?

But none of them were in positions to be bid on, in my personal case. They were all either offered to me (for trade or cash) or I saw them on a retailers site.

But I get what you're saying.

Yeah, basically the price only drops if more people have the figure, if it is still super rare and everyone wants it, its gonna stay high.

Yikes.

I paid much less for the regular size Mutant Head which I think is a better more classic sculpt. I need to stay out of these threads. This is just getting ridiculously insane.

Not ALWAYS. Sometimes all it takes is for everyone willing to pay high prices to get them. A lot of times patience is your best friend with this stuff.

So true.
Wait out the initial spike of hype buying and let prices settle.

Sadly, this brings out more people with no interest in the figures at all (auctiontoy, knunt.com) who will buy them up with the sole purpose of flipping them for a quick buck. It also tends to inflate the prices for a LONG time before we'll ever seeing a reasonably priced one on YJA or ebay.

I'd like to see who else on this board would pay $250 after fees for a mini.

i don't care if it's clear or not, that's just insane.

you guys have been warned about flippers over there reading this board. why bother giving them the satisfaction of paying high for something like that?

it makes no sense to me. wait it out if you want something that bad...

18,000 yen for a mini that hasn't even been released here yet, I just don't understand the willingness to contribute to the rxh flippers

I sense a RxH bubble that will burst when 2008 is flooded with figures.
I just can't believe that these after market prices will be sustainable.
Especially with this economy. But maybe I'm wrong.

Just seems ridiculous for what one is getting.
Just another of seeming dozens of colourways.
18000 yen buys some really interesting and unique vintage.

ok, I'll go with it, then I guess my question is why only 10, who does a short run like that benefit? Certainly not Mori because I'm only guessing he could sell at least 50 more of them. So really, what's the point of such a low production run available only at the shop? Back in the day it made sense because selling 10 may have taken some time but today I just don't get what's going on and as a hard core RxH collector for at least 2 years this makes no sense to me.

Maybe he likes making them, and doesnt want to be restricted to only a few releases a month, but doesnt want to flood the market. I'm not 100% sure that it was only 10, but it was a special release to tie in with the mi-ni day thing Data was talking about. It's entirety possible Mori didn't think more than 10 people would be coming into the shop. It was a FUN release. I doubt he thought people would obsess over it to the point of dropping that much money.

America gets it's fair share of good stuff that the Japanese dont get to see. For example the Bruised Chaos, The Rotofugi Blue figure, and, for those who can't read English, the super 7 sets, the Fungus, the undead bat and so on.

You create tension.

Is it a run of 10 or is it a run of 150?

Ughghhh, I don't know.

Must buy now.

Doh! another 140 released to third parties...

Wash, rinse and repeat

mori making tiny runs here and there is a smart business move in my opinion. he stays prolific, keeps a healthy aftermarket for the figures and it takes longer for collectors to burn out because even though 10 figures came out, you only have 2, and also keeps a healthy aftermarket for the figures. did i mention it keeps a healthy aftermarket? minis were also a good move. just re-use previously desired colorways if you can't think of anything.

secret base tried to make lots of toys with plenty to go around. look what happened there... not too trendy anymore. as long as your v3 evil is "worth" $200+, it feels like you accomplished something when you bought it

I think another thing is RxH keeps "upping the ante" with fantastic work. The "rub" Chaos line brought that figure to another level, and the minis just exploded the whole RxH universe and did something really special.

It seems to me that since Mori is doing this full-time now, with a shop to boot, all his energies are going into the work. But hey, at least we're seeing a lot of unique and interesting figures, and not another battery of unpainted figures, right?

I also wanted to say I don't think it's cool to slam on fellow collectors for dropping a dime on something they really want. Back in '06, some collectors regularly dropped 30-40,000 yen on new versions that were just released at a show that very same day.

Now that so many folks are after RxH, it makes it that much harder to keep up, so though the production numbers are generally up a bit, a lot of figures are still tough to land. So a bit more sympathy, and a bit less antipathy, eh?
