for the super-hardcore only
these gegege statues are killer, but come with a killer price tag. they would be 300+ for the small ones, and 1000+ for the large.
if anyone is for reals interested, drop me an email - josh@super7store.com
thanks!

Can't go for it, but they are most cool. That appears to be Mizuki-san himself signing the boxes.

I think he meant hardcore fan of the manga, which dates back to 1959. If you're a fan, it doesn't get more hardcore than this.

I don't think so as there hasn't been anything about these at the Sunguts site.
For those who don't know, the Sunguts toys are licensed versions of characters and scenes from an old and beloved manga, GeGeGe no Kitaro by Shigeru Mizuki. You might have seen them for sale as the Sunguts Shigeru Mizuki series, but the characters weren't created by Sunguts, only his versions of Mizuki-san's characters.
Some of the characters in the manga are Mizuki-san's adaptations of yōkai, or traditional folkloric spirit creatures. For example the "Sunguts ghosts" are actually from this manga, as are the "Caveman" and "Vampire Guitarist." Sunguts does an exceptional job of making figures from the series, but there are other toy companies licensed to make versions too. You might have seen the Marusan Kitaro in the Super7 web store, or other Kitaro toys that pop up at Mandarake now and then.

the sunguts kitaro toys rule. these statues rule. what rules even more is the original show. the remake kicks it so hard, too. check out Hakaba no Kitaro on the usual anime watching video sites. the first six of the new series are subtitled.

This is the only Kitaro toys that I have:
I didn't really know about this anime until Nakamura-san from On the Bridge said I look like Kitaro if I fix my hair. I had to go look it up and find stuff about this Kitaro. He's pretty cool and I can see why so many Japanese love this series.

If those date to the late '50s, I think the Residents have some 'splainin' to do re: the eyeball/top hat character . . .

The Residents openly incorporate anything they feel like and always have.

I know one of the Residents. It's very unlikely that they knew about the manga back in '76 or so when they came up with the eyeballs'n'tux outfits. For them the eyeball was all about the promise of the original impetus of the psychedelic movement (eyes wide open and all that) which they felt had been sold out. In the early 80s when other entities started using eyeballs with top hats, they felt that it was possible that people had gotten the idea from them. (I forget which one, but there was of all things a bank using a similar image.) I seriously doubt if they would have appropriated the image from the manga without acknowledging it at some point. It wouldn't really make sense that they would have done so at all.

I really love Gegege no Kitaro. One of the cartoons(anime) my mom use to show me when I was little. Also, my mom is a big yokai fan so I guess I grew on it also.
Mizuki Shigeru is tha shit!!!! Not only with Kitaro, but with all the yokai from around the world encyclopedia he has done. If you go look for it, you'll find books on (I think) Africa, china, Philippines and so on's yokai creatures drawn and explained by Shigeru san.
I would totally love to get one, but not now. Some day.......some day....

It was the last set in a local toy store. The whole thing is 4 or 5 pieces so you buy them separately which, I think, is kinda dumb since they're not blind boxed.
