They had a protest in Saratoga last Saturday. A bunch of people were wearing Guy Fawkes or V for Vendetta masks. And they were holding signs that said "religion should be free," "why are we wearing masks? Ask scientologists about..(forgot the name now)" and "why do scientologists get tax breaks?"

I saw Doug Stanhope at Caroline's NYC last week, and he said he was trying to get some people to show up at the protest. He wanted people to wear Nazi uniforms and hold up signs like, "There needs to be a FINAL SOLUTION for Scientologists!"
Wonder if he did it. I've been checking YouTube.

Do you know why the protesters were masks? I saw some of them and they had baseball caps, sunglasses and bandannas on over their mouths. They looked like robbers.
It was interesting because the sprinkler system was turned on and was spraying the sidewalk so the protesters had to stand way off to the side.

The Scientologists have a long history of investigating and harassing their "enemies," so hiding your identity from them is a good idea.
However, there are some towns that prohibit wearing masks at rallies and protests (an attempt to cut down on KKK activity), so you probably won't see Anonymous there.

the protesters wear masks because Scientologists are known for being pretty crazy and vindictive about attacks against them. I believe that is also why the internet "organization" that rallied the protesters is simply known as Anonymous.
that said, I think wearing those Guy Fawkes masks is COMPLETELY corny and totally counterproductive. it certainly doesn't make anyone take you seriously when you look at the group of them and think "they all watched this movie about a revolution and then decided to buy the masks of that character and rebel against something."
I think the attacks on Scientology are ridiculous and out of the blue in the first place anyway, but that's a whole other argument.

What's this nonsense about protesting without a permit? Such a requirement exists in the USA?

On harassment by scientologists check out this guy:

My sister dated him in HS, he used to annoy me to no end but they broke up.
Very sad death(s), scientology related? Well he did an album cover for noted scientologist Beck. But they were just a really crazy couple.

look up 'fair game' or the 'fair game policy' to see what scientologists are encouraged to do to people that interfere with them and their ideals..
also skylar i dunno, i thought it was kinda cool to see them all in london on saturday wearing the masks, to be honest i think people (me included) paid them more attention because of that then just the plan ol' balaclava or bandana/cap/hood

My father-in-law joined the "Church" of Scientology before my wife was born. After a couple of months he realized what a bunch of crap it all was and tried to get out. When he stopped going to meetings, etc they threatened his family and strong-armed his dad into paying $30K to let him out.

I think it's just that THAT mask was from a movie that was about a revolution, therefore making it seem like they were bored internet nerds who watched this movie and decided to rebel against something rather than a real, organized group of individuals with an honest concern and an intelligent argument.
"fuck you Scientology, WE know how to protest because WE saw V For Vendetta!!! take that!!!"

I saw a documentary on BBC where they tried to infiltrate into the Scientology community with no luck. Basically men in black were everywhere and basically tried to block the cameras and exposing the reporter of things he got up to in his past. Very scary.
Maybe if you joined you can get a better hook up of RxH figures?

I personally thought the guy fawkes/v for vendetta masks were completely lame. It made it seem like a bunch of highschool/young college kids were trying to be 'cool' and hip by referencing a movie.
The other masks did the job.
Thanks for the info. Yeah..it was weird...didn't know about the harassment stuff

Well that's pretty much what they are. Really the point is to get as many people protesting as possible and the only way to do that is to get the nerds motivated, even if it looks ridiculous. It seems to be working unlike most recent protests, it's really driving the church crazy. I think it's great. kidclam wrote: I saw a documentary on BBC where they tried to infiltrate into the Scientology community with no luck. Probably this one. It's a good watch if you want to see firsthand how crazy they are.
