Have you seen the newest S7? I don't know if that's ALL of them - but they have about 30 (?) pictured.

Yeah, it takes them forever to put out the new issues. That's the reason why I started a subcription...that and sub. exclusive toys :)

Are they still going to do subber versions? I thought they were thinking of stopping after the WD Ghostfighter sold out in 5 minutes.

I think they will still do sub exclusive toys but may not do a super limited run for a while. Just pretty limited :)

I got into this weird argument with a friend when I showed him a copy of the latest S7 issue. He collects figures (anime figures, superhero crap, McFarlane, old plastic toy soldiers etc) I thought he might get into it or appreciate it.

But he sort of thumbed his nose at it. All the colorways jumped out at him, and he tried to make the point that these were toys made just to move dollars. That there was something wrong with them because:

a) the unending colorways force people to collect all of them
b) 3 or 4 sculpts in different colorways is weaker than 3 or 4 unique sculpts
c) they are weaker (or less real) than older Japanese toys that kids actually played with

To which I replied:
a) no one's forcing anyone to collect everything of everything
b) I'm finding that the same sculpt with different colorways can be just as powerful
c) some sculpts can almost be viewed as art pieces (in a Warhol or Murakami way)

The colorways are fun. And not "unintential, whoops, variants" unlike most action figures, which are used ad-nasuem to move units. (this luke has a bloody stump, this one does not, this one has a colored peg, whatever.)

Do we really think kids buy spawn figures? Do you really think kids are going to buy the "shadow trooper exclusive SDCC figure" from Star Wars? That is just a money making piece, give me a break. I think the worlds of toy collecting are similiar just different P.O.V.

To dismiss it is silly. I buy all sorts of collecting books and stuff, because I like looking at all the unique interpretations of different objects and ideas. The only thing I can't understand is hotwheels. I understand the old ones for their simplistic charm (one color, kind of crude) but wheel colors don't get me excited. But, to each their own.

I briefly was picking up Hot Wheels when Miq Wilmott was doing artwork for them. The pad printing on some of those for such a small surface is simply unbelievable. Toy2R and Medicom are getting close lately, but they can't match a $.68 - .99 price point.

I should take some pics of my favorites because there are some great monster/anime inspired designs that I picked up. Really epic stuff for such a cheap collectible. Of course I have nowhere in my collection to display the cars. Like many parts of my collection, they fit in the mass chaos/general weirdness section.
