The comment about KR noobs seeing the RxH feeding frenzy and wanting to be part of it over anything else makes sense . . . they love that flipping for a fast buck so why take risks!

Thats not all of us....

Just a generalisation . . . no finger pointing here!

I think it's just accepted more with western vinyl and on KR because of the short life span high $$$ interest most of their products are geared towards creating, but the path of Skullbrain is straight and rightous . . . I still love taking the KR $$$'s though! :D :D :D

Agreed on the Silver Spray...and I don't care about what the market does. I didn't start collecting with reselling in mind.

Think everything goes in waves. I am sure in the next few months we will be talking about the same thing but of another company or toy line.

One thing I like about this board is that there are many collectors here that don't buy into the hype thing and take a very zen approach to collecting.

I don't collect one line or complete one series of anything. And I don't try to collect the super limited item because that would mean I would have to drop a lot of cash or know a hook-up. (And imho, many of the super limited items aren't that special)

So noobs may be collecting rxh now because this is the starting point, rxh is getting a attention and it is instant street cred. They will branch out to other lines later.

I think a lot of valid points have been made. I haven't been collecting for a super long time but when I started it seemed like SB was hot, and RxH was sort of in the back. I've noticed a rapid switch over the past few months, which to me is fine. Perfect time to snag any figure that I've been after for cheap. I can't complain about that. There is no doubt that RxH is what's hot right now, and with the minis I'm sure they'll stay in the spotlight for a while. I think it all depends what's happening when someone joins the board. Right now most of us are foaming at the mouth over the minis, so I feel like people see that and want to know what all the hype is about. Now as to why OGs are selling their SB collections, I'm unsure.

That's why I'm giving up on Japanese toys altogether.

They have the nerve to release all of their products at shows that are only held in Japan! I can't attend these shows and so it's not fair! Talk about geographical elitism! How dare they be on the other side of the planet. That's not convenient for me at all.

From now on I'm only buying toys that are produced and available to everyone equally all over the world.

Noobs don't collect SB because that hype wave has passed. Now the real SB fans can enjoy more realistic prices (not hype driven). Soon the hype surrounding RxH will pass too, and the folks who are genuine fans will see the stupid prices adjust to something more realistic.

In the meantime would anyone like to buy some Smurfs, comic books, or some really choice Beanie Babies?

Oh no ! The Raisins are coming back!

That wasn't hype, America just wasn't ready for their deeper message.

Since when don't noobs collect Secret Base? I do and I'm pretty much a Fresh Meat. But I do like some other stuff a little more... Well, no, I like them all. My others are RxH, Blobpus and Dream Rocket for the most part...

We have no "stranglehold", in fact we are trying to get items flow to as many places and into as many hands as possible. We simply are not getting enough pieces from Japanese toymakers to make everyone happy.

As for geographical elitism, the bay area hella rules! (so does texas!)

I have nothing against the Bay area or all the happy locals in Chicago, Arizona, etc. I do see the "X marks the spot posts" from Chicago people before they get edited and its a drag.

I've been more and more bummed out as this has played out though and its best to figure out whats making me unhappy and deal with it.

If you are addicted to something and there is one source then the power is the source's. Break the addiction and they can not reach you anymore plus you save money and there are often other sources for other things.

Not to overgeneralize, but I think most newer Kaiju collectors don't really care or even know which company makes the figures that they decide to start collecting. That seems to matter more to the more established collectors.

I'm still not sure how the disrto network could effect all this since we aren't getting enough figures to send through the distro channels anyway. The only thing that has changed in recent months is the runs have all been small. Blame this on Super7 if you want.

Maybe we should just sell the toys to whoever complains the loudest. Will that work for everyone?

Hey Glenn, as one of the OG collectors of SB and RxH which side of the fence are you falling on (given the thread has drifted that way) . . . as a collector not a retailer.

I still buy some SB figs but I never bought the pirates, captians, usugrow, obake2 or obakedogs and SB isn't releasing much else. I do like the led toys and I still think the plushes inside are great.

I recently stopped buying one of everything RxH there is just to much of it coming in every week. I think buying all releases over the last month would cost about $800 or more. There is just way to much other great stuff to spend all your money on RxH so I have taken a step back from it.

Remenber, some of us didn't get here via KR.

Years of collecting other types of Japanese toys was my path to vinyl kaiju.

I only have one SB, and it's a hedorah.

Same here. Only I came from the 6th scale crowd. SB where the first FF I collected. Funny at the time I only switched to RxH cause it wasn't yet the powerhouse that it is today. I couldn't hang with all the new SB releases and buying the older ones was way outta my league. It's crazy how things work out.

Hear hear. I collected all sort of Japanese toys for most of my life until I started buying more recent production/modern toys. My grandfather frequented Japan and used to bring me toys (he would never take me, don't wanna know why :?). I guess this is why I'm just a Toho/Tsuburaya/more traditional toy kinda guy. I've just never had the urge to buy SB/RxH/fight figs (not that some of them aren't fantastically painted). And the only thing I've ever owned that could be considered western vinyl are my awesome 12" G.I Joes. I think their heads are vinyl. ;) Give me Goji, Hedo, Booska and Gamera any day!
