We probably could at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, if there are still any decent curators there. They love popular-culture-as-art themes. Otherwise, the reason is that despite San Francisco's reputation as a vanguard nexus of aesthetics, the powers that be (well, committees that be) that run the major arts institutions here are still surprisingly conservative, and moreoever, desperate to appear "world class," and thus eschew not only a lot of the great creative things being done locally, but also want nothing to do with anything that might appear to trivialize San Francisco's aesthetic reputation ... like, you know ... those lowbrow nuts at Yerba Buena. A kaiju show? That's for the little people. Wait, they're doing it in New York? Pfffft well that's where San Francisco artists go to sell out, right?

MOCA in LA or whatever that cool museum is in Long Beach would be more likely to do something like this than anyone in SF besides Our Super Seven.

Pardon my cynicism.

I think Loco was being facetious, you guys have shows like these every 15 minutes at Super 7... ;P

I think that Pushead, Cronic, Hiddy, and Hiro are having a group show from 12:00 - 12:15 today. Kaws has a solo show from 1:30 to 1:45

It would be interesting to see if we could find a curator to do a proper gallery show in the Bay Area. It's really not that far a reach in my opinion considering what else is being done other galleries around the country and abroad.
