you suck
my answers are
Nocturnus, lyrically at least
for straight up brutality, Suffocation
for just all around awesomeness of all time, Morbid Angel

Immortal, ok, are not Death metal, but you have to see this video for the simple fact its ludicrous!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VBdAY8eA9w
Maybe we should include BM on this thread too, instead of having a BM thread as well???

for death metal I would have to say Euphoric Drift. I had a 7" by them but never found anything else..very good lyrics about a bus crashing with children splattering and hell and all that
but the best metal is Burzum!
and new favorite Gallhammer..the "blind my eyes" track is so good!

Agreed, ignoring Grishnakhs dubious viewpoints, he made some great music.

POSSESSED "Seven Churches" LP. Could be considered Thrash, but for fucks sake they even had a track and a demo titled "Death Metal". they coined the fucking phrase and walked the path.
Oh, and cookie-monster vocals are the fucking WORST.

actually napalm death leans way towards death metal with their last few albums.
their early stuff was more thrash-punk.

Awesome to see someone mention Seven Churches. I think I still have an old dusty LP somewhere. Probably next to the Venom LPs.

For those of you out there into old Carcass, check out 'General Surgery'. Practically a clone, but very good.
*hands out cyber drinks to everyone*
I find it quite interesting just how many of the SBers out there are or where into the heavier stuff. Nice to know there are plenty out there
By the way, for those of you who like the old crust metal type stuff, Darkthrones new album 'FOAD' is really good!

I can't handle Darkthrone since they've gone "punk"

awww, I would say they are embracing the hellhammer/motorhead thing more.
'Blaze' was their best album IMO

Death metal is more funny than scary (IMHO)... dudes are trying to hard. I always thought that it was backlash against the (far superior) metal that had falsetto vocals... like Man-0-War
Hail and Kill!!!

I would counterpoint that with "Under A Funeral Moon"

I concur, although you do have to admit it sounded like an empty beer can full of angry bees...
Natassja... is my fave from that one. Well, that and 'Unholy Black Metal'
I always regarded them as a superior band to Mayhem.
