Skrewdriver in my opinion are THE BEST OI BAND EVER!!! When they first came out they had no racist bullshit mentality...the All Skrewed Up 12" and the Back With the Bang LP are AMAZING to say the least and with no hints of fascism or nationalist lyrics/ideals. They were released by Chiswick Records which also put out the Damned early vinyl...unfortunately,with some member changes,Skrewdriver became to most hated and controversial band of the 80's due to their racist ways...I still believe that they are and are an amazing oi band, racist or not...forget the lyrics, which for some is kinda hard to do but musically they are great!
not as extreme as being a Skrewdriver fan is being a Bad Brains fan which I am to the heart, yet HR and the other members had not the best political ideals and views, going as far as discrminating against gays and not playing shows with the Big Boys and MDC amongst others because they had members who were openly homosexual...
the point of this post is not that anyone has but before anyone passes judgement on me for liking Skrewdriver i will ask how many of us like/love the Bad Brains? or the Meatmen(another band, from Michigan)who had some pretty racist, homophobic, and masogynistic views(just read the lyric to the "We're the Meatmen...And you SUCK" LP).....

..it does suck...it's all rock n' roll to me...just that punk is a harsher, anti authoritive "you probably don't like me but i'm still gonna let you know how I feel" type of rock...or to some a cacophony of sounds,in-audible and untalented...
Pogue...maybe you'll understand punk if I explained it like this...Hasbro=Billy Joel...Bounty Hunter and Real Head=Minor Threat,the Clash,and Ramones...
...long live John,Paul,George,and Ringo!...

I'm going to see Type O, & Hatebreed may 21st here in Orlando, going to stay on the sidelines this time, the last time I saw Hatebreed I wound up with a size 12 bootprint on my t-shirt At 48 I think its time to just kick back & enjoy the show

I'm pretty positive nobody judged you negatively ikkashinju. Just jokin' around. I was a (vehemently anti-racist) skinhead for years and know how it goes about knee-jerk judgments and all that, but just to be clear, muton and I were just playin'. I trust you knew that.

As well with songs on All skrewed up, back with a bang is steeped with facist and nationalistic tones. Sure its not "hail.." but its definitely there. anyways lets keep it off the board. we can about this band in person.
/end skrewdriver talk on this board
Anti nowhere league sucks. awful and boring IMO.

A lot of music "sucks" to different people, as someone who has grown up with music from the 60's to now, going to my 1st concert (Black Sabbath) in 1970, and over 400 since then, seeing Zeppelin before Bonham died and most of the great bands, I've seen my share of bands that really sucked, but.......
I do like ANL

Yep, just messin' for sure.
So were u one of those SHARP guys?
Skinheads in early 80's England scared me. One jumped out on me as I cycled past with my long hair a-flowing and kicked me so hard he broke teh metal frame of my bike! Fucka! I can only imagine what he would have done to me had his over-large boot connected with my torso!
I also had my arse felt up vigorously by a couple of skins at Donnington Monsters of Rock when I was about 17 and 98 pounds...it was less a sexual advance, much more an intimidatory one. It worked - I was intimidated.
Has anyone over here seen "This is England"? I liked it even though I thought it was highly inaccurate in parts, and overly romanticized, plus teh ending was a nothing. But still enjoyable.

knowing nothing about the origins of the skinhead movement I found it very enlightening.

Never a member but we shared some values, viewpoints and culture. I always said "independent" to anyone who asked, which helped to keep the WAR pinheads away. I don't think SHARP ever picked up much in SF ... it seemed to be more SoCal based in CA.
Spooky stories about the UK skinz muton, but so familiar-sounding. I still haven't seen "This is England" but need to pick that and also "The Filth and the Fury" up soon.

"The Filth and the Fury" is one my favorite movies. That, and a documentary on the Clash called "The Clash Live: Revolution". LOTS of great concert footage.

I'm sorry but this is just plain wrong.
You cannot seperate the message from the music.
Just by the mere fact that you are talking about that band is promoting them, some kid on here may now go and check them out, YOU are effectivley promoting a band with racist values......This whole they were not racist when they started argument is pathetic, They were racist for the majority of there so called career and promoted intolerence and hatred of others and openly encouraged violence.
It feels like you are apologising on behalf of them.
If this is what this board is coming to then I am saddened and ashamed.
I am all for discussion and freedom of speech, but the 'they were not always racist argument ' is bullshit, sorry, and it doesn't cut , they decided to push their message through the medium of music because they new that emotional connection people feel with music was the easiest way to recruit kids into their scene that felt society had forgotten them (especailly in thatcherite England) .
I am absoloutely speechless.............

Some of those SHARP guys here in L.A. were much more destructive than most Nazi's I had the unfortunate experience of coming across. They may have not been racist but they figured out 15 other ways to be assholes.

We played a bunch of shows with the Meatmen when Lyle Preslar & Brian Baker from Minor Threat were in the band, and they were awesome every night. Of course it was tongue-in-cheek, but they were great musically, in addition to being funny as hell. A big surprise was finding out that Tesco Vee's favorite band of all time is ABBA (also one of my big faves).
