man rich, very sorry to hear that you had to go through this horrible shit. a good friend of mine, a skinny dude in his 20s, had this happen and had a very similar story to yours. as a skinny dude in my 20's, whenever i get short of breath, it freaks me out a little. wishing you a very quick recovery. and though it will totally freak me, i'm curious to see..

That's what that V-Color will do to ya!
All joking aside, I'm glad that you're well enough to be telling us this. Freaky health issues are no fun, so it's good to know that this was just a random occurrence and - other than the pain you experienced - shouldn't have any lasting/harmful effects.
Can you get workman's comp?

That was painful even to read. Take care, LASH, and hope all goes well in recovery.

Sorry about the unfortunate happening, man. I'm glad to know that you're OK and it wasn't anything too serious. Still, it sounds horrible and it's scary to think that it could just happen at any time without warning (well, unless you count the pain in your arm). I hope that's the end of your pulmonary troubles! I hope Monday is without complications and you're back on your feet.

totally scary sounding.
in this day and age, when they can change a man into a woman and then change her back again, you'd think they'd have a less medieval procedure for fixing a collapsed lung.
yikes dude.

Glad to hear that are you doing better and the pain was nothing more serious.
Spontaneous pneumothorax (ptx), common in tall healthy thin males (20-30s), recurrence risk after 1st episode is 20%, if happens a second time, recurrence risk rises to 60%, and risk of recurrence after three times is 80%; usually at that point you are looking at a surgery; surgery is also considered if an air-leak persists for > 7 days (the lung does not fully re-expand after placement of the chest tube)
results from rupture of a bleb in the apex of the lung. and like you said, a blister on the surface of the lung is probably the best description for a bleb.
and that's what I know about spontaneous ptx.
I haven't personally had a chest tube placed in me, but I have placed and removed 100s so far during residency...and most everyone says the removal isn't as bad as they thought it would be (usually very tense and anxious about having it removed--which is totally understandable). Just follow the directions and breath in deeply and breathe out forcefully when instructed to do so.
any questions/concerns don't hesitate to pm me and I'll help out anyway I can.
Take care today and tomorrow!
Mark

Well I did claim workmans comp so we will see what happens. If not I have real good insurance so I'm not worried much.
And yes perks for days
And again I asked and they said paint fumes wouldnt be teh case. Not to mention when I paint I almost get no fumes what so ever. I paint by an open bilco door with my supplied air resporator, boy am I glad I decided to buy that.
And speaking of , when I'm healed I will have plenty of time on my hands to paint

Here is a pic ..... be warned !
The top part is where I have the tube coming out. The middle is a catch tube with a valve to release air. The glove has gause in it to catch any dripping and allow for changing.
Its not that bad looking right now. Whne it comes out I will take pics of the stitches.
