I'm hoping for Obama. But really hoping he doesn't get sucked into the typical, despicable, role of the politician. I see it happen here and there, but I see him getting away from it much more often, and in big ways.

By the way, once the primary is out of the way, I think Obama will be one the road to victory. He needs to learn how to play clutch though.

McCain is now so old that even the most conservative Republicans are a little nervous...of course, they will probably nominate Jeb Bush for VP, just in case...

Dems can only hope that McCain names Jebbie (or the other recent supplicant, Condi) as his Veep. Hard to imagine any way John could make it clearer that a vote for McCain is a vote for 'more of the same crap.' I think a lot of the appeal of McCain and Obama is that it's been either a Bush or a Clinton as Prez for two solid decades now, and eight more years of either one seems a bit much. Charlie Crist (current GOP governor of FL) has also been mentioned for Veep, but I can't see the GOP accepting Crist's ... ummm ... 'confirmed-bachelor' lifestyle, even as deeply closeted as he is.

The real shock was that W ever got this slot - This was supposed to be Jeb's spot, W was always the bumbling coke-addict drunken bankrupt black-sheep brother, and it was Jebbie who was the star. One analogy I heard was that W being elected Prez instead of Jebbie is like Don Corleone deciding that Michael will run the Scranton numbers racket, and that the boss of the family will be Fredo.

If America had really wanted change, this race would be between Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich. (It was hilarious - during the primaries, there were several sites that allowed you to enter your personal positions on a list of national issues, and then it would tell you which candidate was closest to your opinions. People howled in outrage as both Dems and GOPers would enter their beliefs, only to be told 'Kucinich.')

We might get a lot better candidates generally if our primary system did not so consistently reward extremism (aka 'playing to the base'). Turns out most Americans do believe in reasonable gun control, reasonable access to abortions, etc., but 'reasonable compromise' is not exactly a rallying cry to stir the blood of the voting populace, ... and besides, fearmongering is SO much easier!

My personal belief is that there is tragically little difference between the two major parties, neither has any serious interest in reversing the US' continuing path to corporate oligarchy. The truly terrifying prospect of a McCain victory is not Iraq or the economy, or any of those 'today' issues - It is the strong likelihood that the next Prez will get to name FOUR Supreme Court Justices. Two current Justices are only hanging on by their fingernails, waiting until there's some hope of a decent replacement before retiring, and since the Justices serve for life, four new, young GOP wingnuts would change the direction of the country for many decades to come, long after the '08 election is a faded memory.

This is really interesting!!! I never even considered this as a potential problem.
And a huge one at that!

What's with the no love for Hilary?
I personally don't like her, but she seems to be a strong contender for the Democrats.
Word is here (last I read) she is leading in PA.

(oh... 1 all, bring to the bridge and let the blues slaughter 'em!)

The versions we get of it here, I am inclined to agree with him.
No doubt you guys get the more inflammatory stuff.
Disclaimer : I am not being snotty, only stating that we may see different versions

And the fact that Obama so quickly and thoroughly denounced everything he said made me wonder if the whole thing was just a big charade to assuage potential voters.

The whole thing is dumb. The people who were afraid that Obama was a crazy Muslim are now concerned that he's a crazy Christian. When I ask these people what Obama could or would actually do based on this if he was elected, they can never come up with an answer for me.

Hillary totally pissed me off with that comment a couple of weeks ago decrying Chinese industrial espionage and how they're gaining an advantage over the US. Hey, remember when your husband was selling them all of that military technology?

I have nothing to I FART A LOT about regarding McCain this week.

But really, all of them, fucking assholes.

I have to admit, it's a good line. Did he come up with that on his own?

We can talk about the lesser evil all day, but in the end evil is still evil. I assure you that no politician has your best interests in mind. The POTUS is nothing more than a figure-head anyway. We all know that these guys are the ones pulling the strings:

McCain? 30 years he's spoken against torture due to his experiences in Vietnam and now suddenly he is pro torture just to get Repuplican backing? Another disgusting human being.
