Post Funny Movies for a woman in her 60s?
Okay folks. I need help compiling a sizable list of movies that a woman in her mid-60s would find funny. So far I'm thinking along the lines of Steve Martin - The Jerk, DIrty, Rotten Scoundrels.

This is not the place for Baseketball or Grandma's Boy - though there were both surprisingly funny to me.

A little help?

Anything by Preston Sturges: The Lady Eve, Christmas in July, Sullivan's Travels, and The Palm Beach Story are probably the best.

Any of the Peter Sellers Pink Panther Movies.

Those still kill me.

Thanks for the suggestions - and keep 'em coming!
Loco - your mother-in-law sounds like an awesome lady! I dunno that my mom would appreciate Cheech & Chong though. Maybe if we could get her to try an "alternative" pain killer.

mother-in-law? 60's? Depending on the person I would probably go the easy route and suggest formulaic movies and/or comedies. Anything with Nicoholson i.e. "the bucket list" or "As Good as it Gets." "" etc. I rarely watch movies but nothing to complicated always works.

The Jerk? Really? There's some not-so-60-year-old-woman jokes there, but I guess it depends on the lady. Eddie Murphy "Raw" all the way 8)

Seriously, I'd go with Sellers.

My mom likes Steve Martin so those two movies popped into my head.
And yeah, I'm just looking for easy-going, light-hearted movies that'll make her laugh.
She's starting chemo in a week, so I'm trying to think of movies I can take over to watch with her since she won't really be able to do much. And as they say, laughter is the best medicine...
I think my mom would actually enjoy parts of "Raw", but I don't think I wanna watch it with her. But thanks for the idea...it made me think of renting stand-up routines by other comedians.

+1

Honestly, if she hasn't seen it...nothing beats Roman Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffs, How to Steal a Million...along those lines

If you want foreign...almost anything from the Criterion Collection will be good

As others have said, the modern easy watching movies work well...as good as it gets, sabrina, thomas crown affair, caddyshack, catch me if you can, happy gilmore, italian job, the terminal, everyone says I love you, scent of a woman, amelie, amadeus, 4 weddings and a funeral(great movie, at hugh and that fugly pro)

Awesome list, I'd say almost any Mel Brooks. There might be a dirty or racial joke here and there, but they're always classic. The Producers is still one of the best.

My mom (age 72) said her favorite funny movie of the last year was Juno, and it's just now out on DVD ...

She also liked In Bruges - It's funny, she'll probably enjoy ogling Colin Farrell, and I thought Brendan Gleeson was truly great in it. Not sure if it's out on DVD yet, but should be soon if not.

Aside from those recent ones, I second some fine choices here - Roman Holiday, Mel Brooks (Blazing Saddles is a sure hit), Peter Sellers ... Also, after the first half-dozen or so, you'll have a better sense of what she likes.

I don't think that's a movie that was considered funny for anyone.

Post Re: Funny Movies for a woman in her 60s?
It Happened One Night
The Philadelphia Story
Trouble in Paradise
Some Like it Hot
Bringing Up Baby
His Girl Friday
The Lady Eve (ditto on the Sturges Recommendations)

...are some classics that come to mind. I also like Juno, and Love Actually, Notting Hill, and Brdget Jones' Diary for more contemporary fare.

And of course you can never go wrong with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels or A Fish Called Wanda.

Best wishes to you and your mom NT. I hope you both can find a bit of solice and get lost for an hour or two in a great film.

Was Juno supposed to be a comedy? Cause' I didn't laugh. No one talks like that, I liked the movie, it was like a "Hippster Lifetime" movie (words of my wife) and it was enjoyable, but I can't say I laughed at much. Maybe it was too smart for me.

Some Like it Hot, great suggestion!
