what can you tell me about Dehara? I've read the threads and check the Dehara site. I'm starting to really dig a few pieces and would like to know more. More specifically the figures, clay and/or vinyl. How are the clay pieces made, who is hand painting them. does Dehara custom the Morlin boxes, anything. Thanks

Not at all, good question

From what I know (which is not a lot) Dehara makes the clay figures and paints them himself. They are meant to stay in the plastic display boxes they come in as they are quite fragile. The Morlin boxes are customized by him so each is different.

Vinylglowaddict knows quite a bit about Dehara and can probably answer far better and extensively.

I know only a little so I will wait for a response from the local Dehara master: VGA

I have a couple of his morlin figures... they're awesome. He even paints each box so they are all unique. Giant Robot has a couple of issues devoted to him I think and maybe there is some more info on their site.

Like others have said, he custom paints the boxes for the vinyl figures. He also custom signs and doodles on the digital prints. The morlins with dogs come unassembled and you have to heat them up to complete them. I have about a dozen of his figures and they freakin' rock.

I love the attitude and subject matter of the clay figures, but never took the plunge with them.

They are lovely. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I know, but 1) they're clay and I'm a clumsy bastard 2) I can't stand displaying figures in their packaging and 3) once I move off of vinyl (even briefly) to clay, then that could lead to wood or canvases or who knows what...

Someday maybe some of the original clay figures will be redone in vinyl.
Until then, I have several copies of the digital prints to gawk at.

Does he hand paint the vinyl pieces?

I thought some of the Morlins were handpainted...obviously the recent (large edition) Oyasai Wars figures were not.

For the The Jingi, yes, as I have two and their heads and backs are different. I don't know about the Morlins. When I purchased them, the description said that the boxes were hand painted, didn't say anything about the figures.

yes all of "HIS" vinyl figures are handpainted, I am not sure about the Oyasai Wars because they were made by Toy2R but I have heard that some parts were hand painted but I am not sure if it was done by dehara or not. one cool thing I just noticed is if you put the Ishida vinyl under a blacklight all of his "X" scars on his body glow in the blacklight, it looks fuckin sweet. Basically his clay figures attract me because I like three dimensional art so they are like buying a painting that you can't play with but are cool to look at, oh and they are a really good price!!!!!!!!!! Also his personality reminds me of my own so that is why I like his art alot!!! I think his Menta Kun vinyl figures are made so nice, the vinyl is awesome!!!!! same with his Ishida figures. The morlins are kinda weird I noticed that the vinyl was really soft right out of the box but then kinda hardens up when you have him out for a while. I still love the morlins alot!!!!!!!! Overall I am so attracted to his toys and art because of the handmade feel of them that is basically why I like Bemons so much too!!!! I mean even all of his little mini Menta Kun figures are hand painted, he puts a lot of thought into his work and that means alot to me. they still have alot of his clay figures at GR so I would recomend buying one!!!!!
