Re: Black Metal GID Dissected Evil
I guess raising the bar simply means bringing in something new and exciting in someones new work. It doesn't have to sound like derogatory or intended to belittle other artists work, this is my 2 cents... Guys...keep on raisin' the bar!

Dear other customizers, bar's been raised! HIGH! I really dislike when people say this. Nothing against you BD, but this quote drives me nuts. There is no bar ! He does what he does VERY well. There is no standard for custom work so how do you set a bar. All customs are different. Only the artist them self can raise there own standards or "bar". This statement always makes me feel as if others out there want us customizers/ artist or what ever you call us to compete and out do each other. And that is wack. No need for others to try and compete just do what you do as best as possible that how the bar gets raised. There will only ever be 1 LamourSupreme,1 Paul Kaiju, nor I or anyone else can try and compete or out do them in doing what they do so how can I raise the "bar" ? Sorry but this bar quote needs to go, I don't want to derail this thread so if you have a long winded reply PM me. I would like to see a wrestling match featuring LamourSupreme (in full eyeball getup) vs. Paul Kaiju (in the gorilla suit), and maybe expand it to a tag team event with Lash and Toybot if they can come up with appropriate costumery. Or maybe the four of them against another team of mere mortals... Back to the topic, however, this is one custom that should be marked for production. I'm not sure if it could be done, not knowing how long it took to do in the first place, but there is no doubt in my mind that it is one of the most awesome and inspiring custom paint jobs that I have seen posted up here---definitely maintains LS's style (as seen in his other works), but works really well with the figure. I guess the real question here should be "what does it glow like?"

Re: Black Metal GID Dissected Evil
Thats just crazy! Amazing work, I have thought about putting a paint brush to a toy for a good while but man, wow! When people work in arts and hobbies you can often see a skill set that has taken years to achieve, and often you will see a style that has taken years to develop. Its great when you see both collide and you get something amzing like this. Again, an inspiring piece!

So how was this done man? I hate to ask and make you reveal secrets, but just curious about the methods, so much detail. I mean, I guess brush work, but still that's nuts! It looks like an animation cell.

JOel, this piece really looks great and shows your style. In a room full of customs, you would know this is a Lamour piece.

Re: Black Metal GID Dissected Evil
wow! the responses have really been overwhelming. Thank you again for the compliments but I say just pass them on to the amazing customizers on this board that really do "raise the bar" for me. PK, Cometdebris, LASH, Toybot, Hiro, Gatchabert etc. They inspire me to raise my bar because of their beautiful work. I guess that's what art's about. inspiring each other so everyone gets good. Also, I'm a little camera slow so I don't know how to take a good GID shot. I'll have the owner do it for me but it glows great because I left alot of bare glow as you can see.

Re: Black Metal GID Dissected Evil
Sure I'm not the only one who keeps coming back to look at this work of art. I'd just love to hold this in my hands for a few minutes and examine it closely. I like how things recede and then pop out depending on where my eye lands. The black spray pattern on white is very strong and spot on. Sometimes it reads organic, sometimes mechanical, other times I pick up references to the body (bones, ligaments.) The (I assume) hand painted "guts" in all there juicy colors also adds to the flip flopping, exterior/interior feeling that keeps happening. When I first opened the thread the image played tricks on my eyes and I thought the figure might be clear with the painted "guts" on the inside. The addition of the delicately painted nervous system, veins, mouth, and eyes are like fine tuning on a great instrument and give it that distinctive Lamour touch. Al in all one dazzling custom figure. Can you tell I liked it? Hope you don't mind me "dissecting" your work.

That is absolutely incredible. The detail and style you put on that evil is like none I could even imagine. Always mind boggling how good you are.

Re: Black Metal GID Dissected Evil
That is pretty amazing, I wish they could produce pieces like this, your style of art kills it on everything.
So who is getting this figure or is it up for grabs?

Re: Black Metal GID Dissected Evil
man this is just terrible...
.. just kidding... awesome and inspiring. These are the kinds of customs that make me realize that there is some value in people doing customs, bringing some of themselves and their art to the piece. should have been in the show.

Re: Black Metal GID Dissected Evil
Wow Joel, I just found this and want to add my $.02 ...
Truly a groundbreaking piece - I agree with LASH that there's no way to compare different artists' efforts, but this kind of work does seem to me to broaden the horizon of what's possible, and that's ultimately to the benefit of all.
I'm assuming the colors were done with those absurdly tiny just-a-few-hairs brushes (along with clear eyes and Gibraltar-steady hands!), but I'd be very interested in any info you would be willing to share with us about how you accomplished that great black 'background' pattern. (I keep thinking thoughts along the lines of "Well, maybe he could have masked it with ... Nope, that wouldn't work either.")
Anyway Joel, my most sincere congratulations on this eye- and mind-opening accomplishment, and also my (deeply envious) congrats to the new owner!

Re: Black Metal GID Dissected Evil
you guys are killing me with all the awesome compliments. I just wanted to thank also the person who commisioned me for this piece...actually pieces. There is a head to compliment this one so it's part of a set. They never really knew what I was going to do and that I didn't really do customs so it was a blind faith sort of thing. Stay tuned for that.
Wanted to thank everyone also because everyone on here is the creative driving force of what I do. Keep collecting and keep customizing and I'll keep creating.
