Don't forget the painted yellow M1-Go Matango!

Also, I think there are a few Hawaiian style Marmit Hedorahs (giant and ridiculously giant)

Oh yeah I forgot about the Yellow M1 Matango. Probably because there are like 12 in existence!
I'm sure Mr. Pogue could get his hands on one though. On the other hand I doubt those Giant and Mega Hedorah's would fit in the detolf as is. You'd need to clear two shelves at least!

Actually, there are 100 of the yellow painted matangos. They were part of a 5 figure set of toho figures released in connection with the mandarake toy shop opening several years ago. During the height of M1 collectibility - these sets were going for $1000.00 on the secondary market if you could find one.

In fact, the set is not that rare - i mean, there are 100 of them (which is why the yellow painted matango that's always on YJA for $2500 is completely and totally insanely priced). These seem to hardly ever come up for sale as a set and I'm guessing it's because collectors don't want to part with them, not because they don't exist in quantity. As many people here are aware, M1 also released the same set of 5 figures in an unpainted version as a lucky bag later that year. And I can't remember now if that lucky bag was released in an edition of 350 or 500 - but either way it's pretty common.

It may be hard to find that painted yellow matango on its own, without having to buy the whole set - but it isn't nearly as rare as many of the other figures we chase on this board.

Great info ElvisFromHell.

I have been wondering for a long time about number of painted Madarake Lucky Bag sets.

In fact myself and a few other collectors on this board have pondered this question(I'm looking at you Lixx and Plover  ).

I agree that these sets are hard to come by because collectors are not willing to part with them. Most, because they love them, but I'm sure some remember the crazy prices these sets fetched during the M-1Go boom and are hoping the market will swing back up again. The price for that Matango, or the whole set for that matter, was never as high as $2500. I think (and hope) that the seller on YJA with the $2500 Matango will be sitting on it for a very long time.

If you were on the old bullmark.com board, you could have gotten the set Jason Park dumped on eBay the minute he got back home. (Incidentally, the set Yuji gave him as a gift when he visited them. That always scores points.)

I've pondered, I've pondered  Thanks for the info Jim. Yeah I was being facetious when I said 12. I also don't think anyone is willing to give this guy up either as Alex said. Too bad there aren't more non set pieces floating around. I've seen it twice on YJA, both times in the set which went for 425-450. 2500 is never going to happen for that solo yellow painted, the seller should just auction it at a lower price, I'm sure he'd get at least 150-175.

I got a yellow painted replica with extra black as a custom from Koji that I actually enjoy more than the official release.

Post Re: Hawaii Colorway
wow - that's ironic because i got that reverse yellow colorway from Koji - the first and only handpaint of his that I've scored. and i agree, it means more to me than having the yellow painted one from the Mandarake set. The mandarake version is cool but not worth more than $150.00 to me.

It's also weird that the special hawaii version by M1 (in this case not the pink one but the blue version with the red and yellow spray) is just as rare - only 100 made - as the yellow painted version but it's not nearly as hard to find or doesn't command such an insane price.

For those who don't already know - the blue/red/yellow matango was actually the first version of matango that M1 wanted to release. But Yuji wasn't happy with the way the paint came out so he altered them a little bit by adding some red and yellow paint and then sold them as a "Hawaii" version. Basically it's a factory "second" of the M1 blue version of matango that everyone is familiar with.
