Oh man, that one's gonna haunt me. See you Saturday morning. I also do "trained seal," but strictly as trade bait for older RxH. I mean if a dude's gonna lower himself...

Usually I try to avoid them like they arn't in the room. They really have to show interest in them for me to explain. And even at that I just say I just like toys. Usually they just stop at that. I rather they didn't know what I had sitting in my apartment.

I get friends of mine and my girlfriend come over and go .... 'Toys aye' and show absolutely no interest. Not a single question. Not another glance.

Guess they have written me off as a weirdo or couldn't give two shits.

I'm the complete opposite. If I went to someone's house for the first time and they collected say ... beer bottles or movie posters or 50's kitchenware, i don't know, anything kinda different, i would have to check it out and ask a few questions. I find it interesting what people choose to collect, even if its not my thing.

Different strokes for different folk i guess. :?

The funniest thing that happened was when someone tried to open the red hot cha cha cha and eat it because they thought it was chocolate!

most people seem to like them or are at least interested. i definitely get comments about how im insane. my girl doesnt necessarily like them but she supports my habit which i think is great. the detolf IS great because it does keep people from grabbing them. every time i show people them i show them the Balzac x Secret base lighters w the floating toys inside, and sure enough they light it. its like a stab in the stomach every time but i never learn. i once had some drunk fool pick up my zodiac box while i was arranging my cabinet after i moved. i was about ready to knock him down my stairs. and iv had them called "gay dolls" by a coworker who was probably jealous cuz his girl thought they were really cool, he proceeded to tell me how hes the only one who has the balls to tell me they'r "gay". which was funny cuz i talk to a few of the other guys about them and theyr interested in different ones than me, they dont collect yet, but i see at least one of them getting at least one eventually. and we know one is never enough!

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but first off, this is a great topic.

Second, that's a great quote. Mike Lucas rules.

Most people who come over to our apartment always say its really cool. We're actually supposed to be featured on a website on interiors at some point, but I don't know when that's going up. If anyone called my figures "gay" I don't think they would be invited back a second time.

I've gotta admit I was a bit nervous when a friend of mine made a beeline for the One-Up Blob Deluxe and started messing around with it, but he put it down fast enough after he heard how much it cost

I started looking through the thread (all 6 pages) and can't believe there wasn't a story like mine.

My landlord was selling his house and me and my fiance lived above his garage (Amazing apartment, never should have moved out), anyways, all of my toys were upstairs, along with video games and prints, etc, etc.

I swear to god everyone that went to look at the Apt (came with the house), would tell my Landlord that it looks like he rents to the "40 Year Old Virgin." It was funny about 2 times.

The best part is that my Landlord never saw the 40YOV, so he had no point of reference, and he would give them this confused look.

Pretty funny. I've been linked to the 40 Year Old Virgin (even though I was married at 23, well if you're weird I guess that still might not mean anything) because of my collection of crap. I think AFTER it came out people who already knew me would say "Hey, that's Jeff in the movie LOLOLOLOL!" including my wife.

From my brother, in his most ironic voice:

"Yeah, that's better than money."

How my wife explains it to her friends:

"I'd rather have him spending money on this than going out to strip clubs."

most people that come into my house are pretty receptive of my toys...until they find out how much they cost.

then again, no one but my friends ever walk into my house.

in addition, I have WAY more video games on display than toys. The video games have also been around a lot longer than my toys have, so people already knew what they were getting into when they come in.

No doubt, I haven't been wowed by too many people's "Dollar collections."

Post Re: What do people say when they see your collection?
I usually tell people that are coming over for the first time that I collect toys and I'll usually get a couple questions when they do finally see them them but thats really about it.

I do have a couple friends who constantly make fun of me and my collection, but yet will sit there and talk about how great they are at Guitar Hero or Rock Band and I just laugh at them. I then also bring up the fact that they both still live with their parents or that I helped one of them pay their rent a couple times and then that maybe they should make a section on their resumes about said GH or RB ability and see if that helps them get a job and out of their parents house. The conversation usually ends there...
