Seriously I know nothing of building an online database but I'm considering finding someone who can and building one myself. It's way overdue. I'd love for a online kaiju database to come up much like discogs.com, where you can create a collection and wantlist. Club Tokyo does it to a degree but it's not user interactive really.

I don't remember the details and we never knew the timing, but I remember that a comprehensive 'in-house' kaiju database was in the plans for S7/SB. Occasional comments from Josh and Glenn made me think the db is still in the S7 pipeline, but with all the other great stuff that they do and the immense scope of this db endeavour, it could be quite a while.

I assume they already have archived pics of most items for the db, but I'd expect they will also have to solicit us for images of pieces that are not owned by anyone at S7 (betcha that's an impressively small number!).

Maybe an S7-er will update us on whether this is still in the works ... ?JoeBunny has been awfully quiet lately, maybe they have him slaving away on it?

Used mainly for posters but there are also toys on here too. I've used it a bit and found it pretty helpful. Also interesting to chart sales prices on a specific item over time.

I really like that site. I've just started to explore it more. It's very useful.

I love expresso beans. I get more hookups there on posters, although they do try and include vinyl the community there is all about the posters. I also like the fact they track bay sales as part of there services so you can see how much something is going for even if it is bay data.

Wish someone would work that site idea for strictly vinyl.

I don't collect for monetary value, I collect cuz I like my toys.

Let's face it, this site probably feeds frenzy in that case.

My thing is to try and not feed the flippers or the scammers.

I like sites that seek to provide information from as many sources as possible. A picture of the item when it was sold retail, when was it made, how many, what was the original purchase price, was it numbered or marked by edition, and then like expresso beans attempts to do, what are people willing to spend for it now and a forum allowing comments about what the owners think of it's quality.

That way I have some idea if I feel comfortable in even trying to find it or buy it from another collector and I have some unbiased info before going into a deal. I still might spend $400.00 for say a Kozik Green Girl BRY print but I can feel comfortable that I was close to reasonable value on the item.

I think if S7 provided a resource like that they would only help their own sales even more.

If your buying to collect, then the market value is irrelevant, as x's value is a personal thing. How much you personally value something (this is an age old arguement among all collectors) is what it is worth.
And I also don't think that Skullbrain feeds any frenzies, I think it is a pooling of shared knowledge.

Not necessarily. I buy to collect, but at the same time I like to know when something I bought drastically increases in value. I'm in shock that my KAWS 5YLs are selling for close to $1000 in some cases. I like to occasionally keep tabs on what certain things are "worth". Still, even at $1000 I can't bring myself to sell them. The thought crosses my mind frequently, especially when the urge to buy a new motorcycle hits (like now), but I know I'd miss having them even though they're currently boxed up.

No, X's value is what is going to come out of my pocket. So even if the decision to spend that much in purchasing the piece of art is a personal choice the expert knowledge of it's current market value is not. Otherwise there would be no such thing as insurance on art collections.

That information if made easier to find would be invaluable to anyone and this whole value is relative thing is something I disagree with. Value is mostly based off of general consensus, expert opinion and market research in my experience.

And sometimes the "general consensus" comes from a group of insane people...like RxH collectors...

If you mean you are a super coder then I can contribute to the design if Super 7 doesn't want to start it. It can be broader than just kaiju toys maybe... IMHO, I don't think we should put the worth into it since prices/values always change over time. It's about what you collect and not the value?
