I've been waiting for this to come out forever. Unfortunately I dont have the money to spend on it just yet I'm a huge fan of the first delicious library.

 Re: Delicious Library 2
How are you entering in toys without any UPC? Are you just adding them by hand?

 Re: Delicious Library 2
it's a mac only app that lets you keep up with your collections. I used it for my video game collection before so i wouldn't buy duplicates. The only problem is that v.1 was really slow with larger libraries.
It's a great app. The awesome thing is it allows you to scan stuff in using an isight camera. Works great on my macbook.
If you have a mac i suggest giving it a try, there is a free demo.

Sweet. (I just googled it too!) I'll DL it sometime this weekend. Although we have a Mac Mini, so no camera. But I DO like to catalog stuff!

Pickleloaf is right though, it's going to bring out your inner OCD...and your outer OCD. Eventually you'll scan in anything you own just to see if it will catalog it. I'm really surprised how awesome the amazon back end is. I have tons of import games and it works just fine with all of them. Not to mention NES games from the 80s that it will catalog.

 Re: Delicious Library 2
When the iphone SDK came out i thought it would be awesome to write an app for it that would work with delicious library so that you could use the iphone as the scanner instead of the isight camera. It would use bluetooth to sync with the DL library you have setup. It would also be awesome to have in the event that you are out and see something you want, you just scan the barcode so you can keep a running 'wants' list. I still may write the app, but i'm very lazy

i wonder how this version will handle as my collection grows. it has gotten good reviews on websites I've read that the new one supposedly will handle over 1k with no problems. They switched to a SQL backend instead of an xml backend, which makes a lot of sense for bigger libraries. Now if only apple would take this approach with iTunes

let's keep it to terms like "ooh shiny!," "preeeeetty,", and "omgwtfbbq!" hehe Sorry, the inner tech geek gets out occasionally. Plus i'm a huge fan of this product. I've actually been keeping up with Wil Shipley's blog

 Re: Delicious Library 2
I didn't realize the app also let you add things that don't have barcodes...
Now I'm starting to think this may be EXACTLY what I need for insurance cataloging purposes of pretty much everything I own. Am I off base here? Is anyone else kind of using it for this purpose?
I got broken into a few months ago, and while I did get a security system installed, I still am a bit paranoid, and realized I _really_ ought to have records of my stuff, if the unthinkable happens.
Can you believe the thieves were in my house and didn't take any of my DVDs or kaiju?!?!?! I was LUCKY.

 Re: Delicious Library 2
Hmmm ... Anyone know of a PC equivalent that would read barcodes and/or ISBN numbers?
If I could use a wireless handheld scanner to index/catalog even just my books, CDs and toys, I'd be in heaven, and if it could do other non-barcoded stuff too, all the better. And, not being a Mac person, I don't know what hardware y'all are referring to - Is it some kind of 'dedicated' handheld barcode scanner or do you use a flatbed scanner, a webcam, or what ... ? If handheld, is it wireless?

That's pretty sweet but I just use my flickr and anal-retentive memory. It looks like a nice program though.

If handheld, is it wireless? They make a bluetooth scanner that you can use, however it also works with any webcam you have available. Most new macs come with the isight built in so it just defaults to that. I know there are a couple of equivalents for the PC, but I'm not 100% sure that they offer any ISBN readers...I'm pretty sure they are all manuel entry.

 Re: Delicious Library 2
Holy crap, so I ended up buying this last night and I am TOTALLY IMPRESSED! I scanned ALL of my DVD collection in maybe a hair over an hour, 166 records (a good number of which are boxed sets -- yeah, I own a lot of anime, sue me!) This is just such a great, great program, now I know why every review of it I've ever read is glowing. It is not complex, not bogged down with too many features -- it just works simply and well, and I feel that once I have my books, toys, and electronics catalogued, I will be able to rest easier in case something bad ever does happen. Plus, it's just so much fun to use! Thanks all for jogging my memory about this product, so worth it -- and definitely one of those apps. that draws people to Macs. Sure, there might be things that are similar for Windows -- but are they as _perfect_ and functional? I doubt it... (Sorry, not trying to start an OS battle here, just my genuine observation.)

Nooooooooo, I'm just ugly, not stupid - I'm not trying to defend PC. I'd sooner try to convert the whole board to atheism than take the position that PC is superior. (And I'd probably have more success, too.)
Merely hoping that someone has done software like this (except kludgier, slower and uglier) for the PC - You know, the 'Other' 95%.
