Think it's a pretty lame rip-off of the KAWS Be@rbricks. The different laminated woods look pretty tacky.

 Re: Karimoku Wood 400% Be@rbrick
This would of been really really cool if it used some non laminated nicer wood like Amboyna burl, ironwood, snakewood and such...and in 100% form

 Re: Karimoku Wood 400% Be@rbrick
very expensive, maybe more the yen60k at retail. also quite few (by bearbrick standards, 150 or so in japan).

I don't think Kaws has the copyright on making a wood version of anything...this one is completely different, and is a really well crafted piece. all Kaws did was make the bearbrick out of dark wood and slap his skull face on it...I love Kaws, but it wasn't that earthshattering of a piece. from a woodworker's perspective this piece has a lot more going for it...I'd buy one if the price was right. but I wouldn't pay $600 for this or for either of the Kaws ones...but that's me...

 Re: Karimoku Wood 400% Be@rbrick
Well I like it. Have to see what the final price tag comes out to but I like the wood Be@rbricks even without the KAWS branding.
Oh 600 dollars.... OK for Probably just a little more I'd go with just getting a KAWS.
Have they ever done a tin or metal Be@rbrick?

 Re: Karimoku Wood 400% Be@rbrick
I don't agree that it's a rip-off of KAWS at all. Just another artist working in the same medium. Comme des Garcons had a wooden piece released just after the KAWS figure. The releases were quite close so you could assume KAWS copied them as well. Regardless, it really only boils down to whether you like or not. And, more importantly, whether you wanna drop the coin on it without feeling sick afterwards. But that doesn't apply to any of us on this MB I currently have 3 of the 4 wood pieces and the original KAWS figure is outstanding. Each one is different due to the obvious. The one I have has a slight flaw in the wood right where a belly button would be so it gives it some additional character. There are 500 pieces of each KAWS figure and only 150 of these. At $600, (and probably ONLY if you're a Be@rbrick nut) would you deem it worth the dough. No tin or metal Be@rbrick (yet). I think Medicom working with wood as a new medium is great. The figures look elegant. Be interesting to see if they go somewhere else with it in the future. Glass maybe? Just kinda cool to see a toy company working in different mediums and trying new things.

 Re: Karimoku Wood 400% Be@rbrick
I just think Kubrick did it right the first time and all the other wood Be@rs that have followed don't live up to the first one. The laminating on this one looks cheap and kinda tacky. If they had perhaps done a more artful laminate then it might have purpose, but this just looks lazy. They should do a tribute to one of Les Claypool's bass...I can't find a picture of the one I'm thinking of, but the lam on it is incredible.

Do you have any pics? Would like to see it. Post the pic of that bass as well if you can find it. I'm still really digging the look in the arms and the chest of this new fig. The real test would be to see it in person. Let's face it, that can and does make all the difference in the world.

 Re: Karimoku Wood 400% Be@rbrick
That 1000% is kinda cool. I think a raw iron one would be pretty cool to stick out in the yard to let it rust. Or a copper one that would oxidize green over time. I still think the best would be a 1000% wood - either blank, or the original KAWS version, but use that same wood regardless. The painted wood grain 1000% just looked chintzy, but real wood would be class.
