More dinos from the 1980s era line mentioned by vintagevinyl above:

Image

These were produced by a company named Sun & Brownie, and are stamped 1981 on their undersides. I can't really find much more information about this company (at least not in English). One interesting point is that the molds for these toys appear to have been shared with another, better known company: Clover. Clover released some or all of the same sculpts with completely different paint schemes and packaging AND included tiny cavemen with the dinosaurs. No idea which line came first.

Image

I had no idea that Clover even produced vinyl dinosaurs, so if anyone knows more, please share!

Really?! I have a Celga Gold account, and I guess I still don't
know all the perks. How would I go about doin' that?

If you find anything you would like to order, please email the following to bustakei@yahoo.com:

1. The URL/item no./size
2. Item price
3. Your full name
4. Your address, including telephone number
5. Notification that you have deposited 100% of the item price in USD to paypal@celga.com

since you have a gold acct, you may not have to deposit money

you can order more than 1 item from a website... they will give you a discount on their fee so you dont have to pay per item

Does anyone have any info when ordering through CELGA off of other sites like Butanohana, not an auction, if fees like the bank transfer and shipping within Japan are applied as well. I'm tryin' to get an idea if ordering through Celga is more cost efficient for Dinos. Thanks for any help.

thanks, loaf. sounds easy enough, quite identical to the celga basic (non-gold) bid requesting process.

If you look at the celga site..you have your choice of buying from tons of sites...You just have to give them your info. Yja just happens to be the most popular site or one of the most popular sites that people end up using celga for.

yeh i've had Celga pick me up shoes and jackets from Japanese sites. I don't thing there is really a limit to what sites u can get them to grab stuff for you from. If they sell it online, Celga has your back.

I just grabbed a few of the butanohana dinos below. Some serious nostalgia for me here, i love the way they look. I don't have them in hand yet but i'll take some cool outdoor shots soon

Don't have a pic yet, but I just got my first Butanohana dino from S7. It's really great feeling, just the right size with a nice paint job.

Decypher - did you order from the Butanohana site, or do you have a secret source?

Those are just beautiful.^^
Despite my house needing a million in repairs, I think I'll get a trailer, some ikea shelving and a Celga account. There are just so many temptations that a man can face before he crumbles and falls into DINO SIN.

Mark K. sent me a set of the teensy-weensy sofubi dinos he posted earlier in the thread, and I posted shots of them to my Flickr. Start here and follow the stream:

I'd also like to add that Mark is the bomb-diggety (if I may use latter-day parlance).

Well, it's a little late in the day, but I was wondering if any of those are still around?

More on the Clover and Sun & Brownie 1/50 scale dinos... I received a little catalogue with my new pieces.

Image

First row: Brachiosaurus, Brontosaurus (Apatosaurus), Tyrannosaurus
Second row: Allosaurus, Triceratops, Stegosaurus
Third row: Gorgosaurus, Plesiosaurus, Archaelon
Fourth row: Iguanadon, Mosasaurus, Pteranodon
Fifth row: Ankylosaurus, Plateosaurus, Ceratosaurus

Only some include an in-scale human figure.

There may be more than this, I don't know. There is a package variant in which the boxes are green (whereas mine are all yellow), which may or may not indicate a later series of toys.

These are all released by Clover (better known for their awesome robot toys). As I mentioned earlier, a company called Sun & Brownie also sold these same toys, but with slightly different paint apps and completely different packaging. As the molds all have the S&B stamp, I suspect that Clover either purchased them from S&B or acquired them entirely, and re-released the toys under its own name. I can't really find any information out there.

Some of my motley saurian crew...

Image

These are my favorite of the vintage dino vinyls. They're a little more realistic than the old Marushins, but they're clunky enough to 'date' them as late 70s/early 80s toys for even the casual eye.

Wow! They definitely have the look of some of the Ark or Orange vinyls in terms of the color arrangement. Any photo of the belly stamps? I have never seen any of those before. Beautiful toys.

Just as a comparison, this is a junk photo of Wiley Seijin by Ark... really resembles the Triceratops in the photo.

Image

This is an Ark dino (Polacanthus) that recently sold at auction- didn't go for much as the spines were broken on the opposite side of the body. Looks pretty different from these, but the stamp said "Ark."

Hey Jim, I picked up the same box of dinos (12 dinos = six different x 2). The guy has sold 4-5 boxes now and they keep getting cheaper each time. Anyway, I do not think these are by Ark. The one akum6n posted had "footprints" if I remember correctly and was clearly marked Ark. These guys are marked Great Co. Ltd. I think the Ark one would be a mini and these are larger than that, kind of middle size. These guys are great anyways and I am glad I picked them up.

Post Marusan Stegosaurus(es)
I’ve been bitten by the Dino addiction bug-viz… drill another large hole in wallet! For you dino experts out there (cough *Mark*, cough cough *VintageVinyl*), can you please help me with a question? I’ve been lucky enough to adopt this Marusan stegosaurus--auction description read that it’s a 1965 Marusan version)

Image

In the third photo you see the Marusan penguin logo (thanks Akum6n for the ID help) with letters “MB” in his tummy.

I’ve also seen what appeared to be the same Marusan stegosaurus, except that the more familiar Marusan logo—the letter “M” surrounded by circles, is stamped on the dino. For comparison, you can see this the picture below

Image

If these are both Marusan dinos, why are the logos different? Which is the earlier version, and is one a reprint of the other? Thanks for any help you can give. :P
