Post The scariest moment of my life just happened on my birthday.
So my birthday was this past Tuesday, the 17th. My Parent's took me & the girl out to dinner. When we were about to finish dinner my Dad suddenly looked pale and said he felt like he was going to faint. About 15 seconds later he completely shut down & was unconcious. This lasted for about a minute. I dialed 911 immediately for help. All of the staff in the restaurant came over to ask what they could do to help. He was breathing during this time, but barely.

Finally he starts talking faintly. He was not making any sense though. Suddenly he is covered in sweat. The Paramedics arrived within 2 minutes or so. They asked him some questions, and he was able to respond for the most part. They loaded him on to the ambulance very quickly. I called my Sister at this point to tell her what happened & to meet us at the hospital. I really thought he was gone when he first passed out. I have seen people faint before & this just seemed way different. Once at the hospital he seemed weak, but he was pretty much back to his normal self. Laughing & joking around with the Doctor's. They kept him overnight & ran a ton of tests on him.

Everything came back negative & they gave him a clean bill of health. They said it was an episode of vesovagal syncope. A fancy term for fainting. They said it was definitely not a heart attack. I was very glad to find out that there was nothing seriously wrong with him, but when it happened it seemed so much more serious than someone just fainting. My Dad is 64, I just turned 28. He is very healthy for his age. My Father & I actually watched my Grandfather die. We were in the room when it happened. However, he was very old & it had been coming for years. So it was expected & we were prepared for it. My point of making all of you read this is just don't take day to day life for granted, & give your family an extra hug the next time you see them.

Glad everything is okay. An older man having dinner on new years eve at a restaurants I worked at collapsed at the table during his meal. Paramedics, shirt ripped-off, the whole enchilada. Turns out he was fine too, sat back down and finished his meal, sans shirt.

Happy Birthday, may your next one be better.

That's horrible but luckily he's ok. My dad had a heart attack on my sisters 9th birthday, we were both scared shitless. Happy birthday and a big "get better" to your pops.

Talk about pins & needles! Glad nothing major came of this. Not knowing wtf was going on until the results came back must have been nerve racking.

at my ex-girlfriend cousin's wedding, a family friend collapsed during the wedding reception. they had to carry him out of the restaurant dead on a stretcher.

not a great omen...

Damn Brooks, Happy "belated" Birthday to start and I'm also very happy to hear that you father is doing well after undergoing such a scary event... my father just passed away recently and he was 64 yrs old. He had pancreatic cancer that involved a tumor that could not be removed due to it being wrapped up in some major veins which could not be avoided if they were to try and perform surgery...

Having to sit there and watch my father die so slowly has got to be the worst thing ever I ever had to deal with in my entire life...!!! Not being able to do anything about it but give him more pain medicine just made me feel so helpless and angry inside...

seriously folks, never take the people you love the most for granted...!!!

life is just to damn short and you never know when the man is going to punch your ticket...

 be safe...

I'm sorry to hear that happened to your dad. :(

The same thing happened to me two years ago when I got the flu shot at work. It's so scary, and when the doctors tell you there is nothing wrong it really makes you wonder what causes things like that to happen.

It's the first time I've read about it happening to someone else though. Same things happened here...

glad to hear he's ok!

Glad to know your dad is okay. Take good care of him.
Ya right, don't take it for granted. Enjoy every minute and second spent with our parents, we don't know when the clock will suddenly stop.

Glad to hear your Dad's OK!

My Dad is 77, and in poor health. One word for the men here - We have this guy tendency, when we hug our Dads, to give it 1.3 seconds, two quick back-pats, and we're done. I'm as guilty of this as anyone.

Last time I visited, I gave my Dad a hug, but then I wouldn't 'break' when he gave the back-pats after a second. I just snuggled in there deeper and held him tight - Once he caught on, we stood and hugged each other really tightly for two or three minutes (which is a LONG time!). It brought tears to both our eyes. Highly recommended -- If you are fortunate enough to still have your father in your life, give your Dad a real hug.
