 collector mentality.
i know collecting vinyl toys is one of the most expensive hobbies out there, but what else do you/have you collected (if any)? most dudes on skullbrain i presume collect other shit or at least did before they got onto kaiju.
for me at the moment, the only thing other than toys is hats (mainly supreme box caps).
for years i collected hardcore LP's and 7", but as havingmysay (prob a misquote) said; handpainted sculped vinyl is always better than flat, circular vinyl. i still have them sitting in my room collecting dust.
i'm pleased i never got into kicks...

 Re: collector mentality.
I started with TMNT carded figures, back when they had individualised card artwork based on the figure. Then Nightmare Before Christmas 1993 Hasbro items. Movie posters, currently trying to complete foreign Star Wars posters and Alien posters collection. It's easy for me to get new release posters though through work. Used to collect comics when I was a teenager, even worked in a comic shop. Best job to have when you're 15, maybe even still

 Re: collector mentality.
I was big into collecting video games. Which is actually about as expensive as toys. In fact, when I went to Tokyo, I actually bought more famicom disk system games than toys

 Re: collector mentality.
I collected comics and cards as a kid, and then got away from collecting for around 10-15 years. For toy collecting, I started with Star Wars, then moved on to vintage Takara Microman and Diaclone, then Western vinyl and kaiju. For Star Wars, I still have 4" and 12" vintage sets. I mostly collect kaiju now, since vintage Takara is so hard to pick up. I've been looking for certain Microman pieces for 5-6 years. So yeah I guess we're all pretty nuts.

collected comics, comic cards, then got into sport cards and die-cast cars, then got into toys late in life compared to others.

 Re: collector mentality.
I still currently collect manga novels (specifically the Berserk series by Kentaro Miura) I have collected Heavy Metal Magazine since about 1988, and while i don't think i missed a single issue, i did lose about half of my collection about 6 years ago, but that didn't stop me.

Now THIS can get expensive I've got 5 guitars, but none were all that expensive. I keep waiting for an ovation gp to fall in my lap for under 1k...but one just sold yesterday on ebay for 2500 bucks.

 Re: collector mentality.
I still collect some mid century porcelain made by Rosenthal, Sgrafo Modern, Arzberg etc mostly vases but some plates and sculpts as well. I actively collect illy collection cups (mostly the espresso but some cappuccino cups as well) and sake cups(wood, porcelain, stoneware) I collect custom handmade tools & knives that use ultra high end metals such as S30V stainless, CPM3V tool steel, Ti 6AL/4V, Damascus, carbon fiber I'm not sure if I consider myself a collector, but I also have about 10 custom flashlights(using lovely metals again, and cutting edge LED's and lithium-ion batteries) that I absolutely love and use daily. You know how people carry an umbrella when theres 30-50% chance of rain?....well there's 100% chance of darkness tonight, why not be prepared Oh and manga...but I don't collect em...just own a few series here and there that I like to read

 Re: collector mentality.
aaaaaaaaa... the old Accumulation Impulse - hunter/gatherer indeed. As a kid it was Spiderman comics, Star Wars cards and Steve Jackson micro games. Sold everything to come to Japan back in the day.
Once in Japan, sad to say I wasted a lot of cash collecting CDs - big return on that investment. Is there any research or anecdotal evidence on why their tend to be more male collectors - at least later in life? Or am I over generalizing?

 Re: collector mentality.
Started with 70's Tonka toys, Space ship, raygun, robot tin toys, and Japanese diecast super robots like Voltes V, Mazinger, to name a few.
Collected star wars: carded figs, vehicles, 12 inch. Then I stopped for awhile and never got back.
Been collecting for 4-5 years now--mostly Filipino modern art. Slowed down a bit, because of this recent and expensive passion.

 Re: collector mentality.
I had a small baseball cap collection. Have a Minn. Northstars cap signed by Mike Modano and a couple of Russian teams. I don't really collect shoes but I do buy a fair amount. I have cut back on the shoe buying (to feed the Sofubi buying). My biggest collection is still my Choro Q collection which is about 250 cars. Some limited cars, a bunch of buses, and just a bunch of commons...but I love em. I'm sure I've posted this before but...this is about a third of the Choro Q's that I have. The limited one's stay in their boxes cause I can stack them up, and even if I did take them out, they come in their own display box so might as well leave them in the package. At one point I was considering collecting mini replica Formula One helmets, but then I never found them here in the US so that didn't go anywhere.

 Re: collector mentality.
Tiki mugs or cool mugs, stuff with non-cheesey skulls, stirkes on my criminal record , random art prints, DVDs, vinyl records, t-shirts, currently getting sealed packs of TROV pogs, one night I just want to rip them all open and re-live my early nineties childhood in a game for keeps. Most of it is stuff I use everyday though and not as "wasteful" as the toys.

 Re: collector mentality.
I have a small collection of vintage 1" music and related "art" buttons from the 1980s. Bought them when I was in high school, but nowadays with a resurgence in popularity of 1" button, I occasionally indulge in getting more. Now, just have to finally figure out a good way to get them out of the box and display them.

Transformers! I still collect them, too.
I also collect toys from the Armored Core line of games... I almost have every one made, except for a 'gift' version and a couple of the color variants from the trading figure line.
