That Vader chick is pretty awesome, but generally I think American Cos-Players suck. I dunno why, it's not a pre-conceived notion I had or anything, I just noticed it. They just don't hit it on the head as well as the Japanese.

I dunno, I never thought of it much before, I just know when I see Japanese cos-players I have some awe and respect and when I look at (most) American cos-players I just laugh at how lame/contrived/homely/depressing it usually looks.

(lately your posts have perfectly accompanied your avatar)

I think it's cuz for the most part, the Japanese seem to have fashion nailed. So there is little they can't pull off.

I am...The Bat. For Serious.

GID Rangeas in the TTF color scheme is at once sort of off-putting AND awesome. Seems strange that they'd do similar colors at basically the same time, but, oh well...at least I have a chance at getting the TT one. Thanks again for the aweosme info Lorne.

PS > The 3D Anarchy thing? This is happening in the Graffiti world, too...saw something about it over on vinylpulse or some shit. AND, a couple years ago, they did the whole Sex Pistols/Master of Puppets 3D album covers or some shit. I just....damn. I just can't swallow it. Especially this.

I think Futura and Seen have more of a right (and it makes more sense) to do this for many reasons...to many their tags are iconic. As far as Frank's 3D Anarchy Symbol goes...well...

for me, I wouldn't buy any of them...but I understand those who would buy the Seen and Futura pieces.

Only my opinion, but graffiti work does not seem to translate well into 3D, at least not for my sensibilities---Futura and SEEN (among others) have my respect for the art they create, but I definitely prefer the 2D form much more.

The Barbie anarchy symbol---wow!---it just screams "CHAOS!!!" I look at that and hear "cha-ching" (picture an old-timey cash register with a cig hanging out of the front of it)...

Different strokes for different folks, or, as Thomas Tusser wrote back in the '50s (the 1550's) "a fool and his money are soon parted"...they made all their anarchy symbols out of corn husks, back in the day...

i kind of disagree Lorne. I think Frank's symbol is just as iconic as Futura's and Seen's. As a matter of fact, I think this pink version is actually more impactful because of its irony. No one can push more buttons and get a reaction from people while laughing all the way to the bank like Frank.

but... i mean... it's just an anarchy symbol right? thats all it does? just sits there saying "im pink, i'm anarchy." when did it become frank's? i'll admit, i like my labbits. theyre fun and they sit in a little smorkin rainbow row on top of my china cabinet, but the whole rest of the smorkin cadre doesnt do a whole lot for me. this thing though, any irony in the color versus the ideology is superficial at best. maybe the idea is "i can put out crap that barely has any meaning and still bankroll for it, look at these fools throwing money at me!" no disrespect intended but i just dont see the point.

I think it's awesome personally in the same way his Beethoven busts are, pure pop art, not filtered through a toy collectors lens. As someone said on another board noticed he trademarked anarchy, thats the best fuck you I've ever heard.

A purely personal and ironic take on pop art imagery. It would basically have been half assed if the 'anarchy logo' wasn't trademarked.

Does this mean that there will be infringement suits against several hundred thousand teenagers that have scrawedl the anarchy symbol on their notebooks? The whole notion that someone can sell this or those "bird-flipping" hands just cracks me up---I have to applaud FK's ability to market stuff---he's worked a long time at it and deserves to make some cash, but I just don't get it---it seems like the "fuck you" is going out to the consumers, but maybe it is to people like me... I'm sure that there were a ton of folks that thought Warhol was a goof for painting soup cans too---one man's "pop" is another man's "plop", I suppose.

At least it is a good topic for discussion!

Well the way trademarks work is you get a trademark for a specific thing (the letter a in a circle, an egg shaped pooping bird) in a specific category (toys, apparel, autos). Maybe he's just trademarked the word Kozik Anarchy, maybe he's tm'ed the anarchy symbol just for toys or maybe he's just fucking with people. I dont pretend to know Frank well or to be one to speak for him but I'd wager hes got better things to do than hound anarchist collectives punk bands and hot topic for trademark infringement. Anyways he's a member of this board maybe he wants to shed some light on the topic. And yes its a great topic for discussion.

I also like the anarchy symbol. Dunno if I'd spring for one, but I do like the concept.

again, compare the two. Futura's signature. I love the guy and his work but it is only his signature. Frank's anarchy is a pop culture icon that he's adopted his own and is making money off it with his ironic twist. The pink anarchy symbol puts a smile on my face everytime I look at it because he's taken a symbol and twisted it to be the complete opposite of what it now stands for. Kind of like the crucifix. Before Christ it was a symbol of death and torture. A.D. not only is it a sign of salvation, but it keeps the vampires at bay. 500 years from now, that Anarchy logo may just be the adopted logo of one of the largest corporations.

no doubt, Joel, the anarchy symbol is iconic...probably one of the most iconic symbols in the world along with a few others Frank likes to use...I just don't dig it like I do some of his other work...

that being said, Frank will laugh to the bank with this as well because it's going to sell out...just probably not to the peeps on this board...it might have made it into my pink collection 3 or 4 years ago...but now I just think it's adding more noise to the product din.
