i am relatively new to the japanese vinyl scene. i buy what i like. i dont buy what i dont like. i am extremely grateful to everyone who has helped me along the way. it has truly been a fun quest, and my SB/blobpus collection is really coming along nicely(IMO)
anytime you talk about anything, it gives others a chance to see it or learn about it. some of those people are flippers who want to make a buck, and others are people who are truly interested in the scene and want to collect some quality pieces. it will inevitably happen that people will get interested in things...someone eventually will leak the info somewhere.
anything mentioned on the KR board will instantly become popular if it is a halfway decent figure. hell, i mentioned MUSCLE men 2 weeks ago, and the damn ebay auctions i was watching skyrocketed. oh well. it is what it is.
let's put it to the test though...
someone find something that no one around here really likes, or that isn't successful at all(japanese vinyl of some sort)...some obscure line.
then let me start a thread about it over at KR, with some of you guys piping in about how this thing is so fuckin dope and all this and all that. how this is THE next big thing! then let's see if the prices soar. let's test and see how much of an impact we have, and how many people are really sheep.
it's worth a shot...or at least a fun experiment if nothing else

Why don't you buy what you don't like?
We don't need any tests to know how many people are sheep. You can tell them by how they smell.

having a community to go to and just BS or read about toy passion is worth more to me than getting a given item. wouldn't be much fun to just hunker down in silence... still losing out to hype is annoying sometimes...

It was a rhetorical question. I don't buy what I don't like either... kind of goes without saying, unless you have other reasons to buy it.

Exactly, who are we gonna call? This forum is a great resource, but it comes with its drawbacks. What can you do? I dunno. . .

People buy on hype alone. You can see it often enough on various boards. People actually make a thread asking should I or shouldn't I buy a certain figure. El Maz had a point in saying that, and is how I buy myself.
I think the "Heater" figure on here is a pretty good example of at least interest getting generated by exposure (not sure about actual prices though). I have noticed the interest and talk on this figure has gone right up since Ramos pictured his cool example a little bit back. This guy surfaced on here at least a few months back and Frank had a number of them and little was said.
So yeah, I think we generate interest both among ourselves and then into the wider world but we a far from the only source. There are other sources.
As for eBay and YJA, people will still check these places regardless if an auction is listed here or not. Maybe listing will give the auction a little more importance than it would on it's own though.
If there is this amount of worry of exposure etc. why take it over to KR or other non Japanese boards? If talking about all these toys here is being seen as dicey, surely taking it out to the wider comunity is worse?
It would be a shame to see everything go silent on here. I know I had a hard time getting anything out of anyone before Skullbrain started. Once this forum started though, info was shared openly and I learnt a lot about the history more than anything and that gave me a huge appreciattion for these figures.
Did I answer the question?
Don't think so.
Anyway.
A.

Hahaha!!Its crazy man...They are just toys.I agree w/ rats, snakes and flippers lurking around making it hard, but fuck it.I decided Im spilling the beans on my sources, whether they are secret or not, for JP vinyl. To foster a better environment for the board.
My favorite places to shop online:

Bastards! Collectively you are always right that is why I keep coming back. Now that I think about it the friends I have made finding all these toys are, in fact, more important to me than the toys.

If we all just buy this stuff and keep it secret, it seems it would lead to paranoia, and would quickly lead to the demise of any sense of fraternity. Then the only real reason to be here would be to get information for our own private purposes, rather than to also share information with others.
I think it is better to be open and celebrate the things we like, rather than guarding our "precious" toys in a cave under a mountain like Golem with his ring.
+1...i was actually "invited" to this board by one of it's higher ups because of my posts on KR and i wasn't collecting JP stuff at all...they just liked my "positive" attitude on collecting and what a community should be. i'm into this to have fun and see both sides of the coin as far as sharing your sources but maybe that stuff needs to be stricktly pm material between those of us who have proven to frequent the board for the fun of the toys...not to make $. i seemingly collect "dollies" for a lot of the same reasons as geo and i wish everyone felt that way. rainbows and smiles in hell! BOOM!

That is a beautiful photo Knewnan. Looking at it makes me want the toy, but after looking at it for a while I realize it's not the toy I like, but the photo...
As for the whole sharing info vs. not sharing info issue, I believe in sharing, but generally in a small scale. If I know someone collects a particular thing and I see that thing offered somewhere, I will pm the person I know is looking for it. Hell, I remember there was a figure Knewnan & I both wanted. Knewnan had wanted it but didn't want to outbid me. I pm'd Knewnan to let him know what I was going to pay and to let him know if he wanted to bid more, I would be cool with it. Knewnan let me have it. Very cool move on his part (thanks again Glenn).
I will post info to smaller boards but not to KR. That board has become so nasty, and so fickle it makes my head spin. One minute a toy is "hot" the next minute you can't give it away. Many members there seem to only want what they can't have, if it's too easy to get they're not interested.

No need Geo, no need.
(I've been told for this to make sense, it needs to be said in a Scouse accent.)
