bands/musicians that stand the test of time
ok, there are too many bands in my other thread that were once great and lost it completely
what bands started off decent to great and maintained or gotten stronger over the years?

Re: bands/musicians that stand the test of time
i'll be generic and start the list with the beatles
went from essentially a boy band with catchy music to a touring powerhouse to the most influential musicians of the past 50 years
went out before they had a chance to really lose it

Re: bands/musicians that stand the test of time
I already mentioned this in the other thread, but I think that At The Drive In started off strong and ended on their highest note.
This is a much harder thread, as most bands stay on the shelf way past their expiration dates.

rhino, im with you, i was just at lunch talking about how consistently good green day has been for the past 15 plus years.
and i'm going to take exception with smiling idiots list with sick of it all and entombed, live SOIA cant be fucked with, but since Built To Last they have released nothing but mediocre at best records. I didnt even like Built To Last. and entombed? left hand path is a great fucking record, wolverine blues was ok, but since then theyve put out a whole lotta SUCK.
other bands who've stood the test of time... slayer.... their new stuff isnt as great as the old stuff, but the old stuff was so great its unfair to knock records like god hates us all and christ illusion. they are both good records on their own.
suffocation. hard record after hard record.
the mighty mighty bosstones... every record makes me smile.
napalm death.. smear campaign destroys any of these newjack deathmetal bands.

Re: bands/musicians that stand the test of time
It still kind of amazes me that RCHP, greenday and a few other bands still get radio play. Not the same as before but that's a pretty be accomplishment to stay relevant for so long. 20+ years? That's pretty cool.
On a off topic...I was at a coffeeshop and the barrista was talking to someone and said she was 18. To me 18 doesn't seem that young...until I realized she was born in 1990. Then I felt old.

Barring a few average songs, Blaze as the singer were pretty damn cool. Very dark, and not what Bruce could have pulled off. Same went for when Blaze sang Bruce's material. I still think that Fear of the Dark and No Prayer for the Dying are Maiden's worst two albums. Chains of Misery is the absolute worst song Maiden ever put to tape.

You can disagree with me, but you know deep down that you are wrong BTW, Greenday had 1 great record and two good records: The "Slappy" EP was great, "39 Smooth" and "Kerplunk" were good. I will agree that SOIA's Fat records were "just okay", but Death To Tyrants was very good and got me back to my love of NYHC. SOIA's worst record is still better than most other NYHC bands have been doing lately (Agnostic Front, Madball, etc.). Entombed is one of those bands that either you like Left Hand Path or you like everything else, as they diverge musically. I thought LHP was good but it was just a metal record. Musically, I like Wolverine Blues, Morningstar and Serpent Saints so much more. Though I do ignore the records "Inferno" and "Same Difference", those records are shit. Wait...why am I defending myself, this is a messageboard... Fuck you! you are a douche

Re: bands/musicians that stand the test of time
SOIA should have stopped putting out albums in 97. I dont think "built to last" is standing the test of time for me. Live they still have it though. I'm with scott on Napalm death. Smear campaign is crushing. While were tlkaing about bands on that side: Infest is one of the only bands to put a reunion album that is just as good as any original material. As I said in the other thread I think anything John reis has done is gold. Same with Walter schreifels, although some will disagree with that. Green day? come on guys really? I love early albums and Ill even give you nimrod. But I think american idiot was mediocre at best. Mostly embarassing. A embarassing attempt at politics and a "rock opera" for them. He needs to stick to what he does best. straight love songs. On another note, Pinhead gunpower played the first week I was here in the bay area and im still kicking myself for missing it
