This actually reminds me of when the Project 1/6 Rangeas dropped. It was a limited of like 100, so guys were buying one, then going to the end of the line and waiting so they could buy ANOTHER one and ANOTHER until you saw some guys carrying 3 or 4 bags (guess what was in each bag?). But you know, they were just picking some up for their "friends"...

Oh I dunno... I doubt any toy out there is gonna hold its value quite like the Gonion! One of these days I'm gonna pay my kids way through college with those Gonions!

It REALLY pisses me off when I see people wanting some of the hard to get new releases, because people are buying them up just for trade bait and posting them up for trade before they even have them in hand. Bush league.

Hehe, sorry. I really do love those guys, I've been slowly building a collection over the last few months and now I'm up to 8 (even though 4 really are the same one!). I'm always happy when I come across one because I know it's gonna be an awesome toy and under $20.

And if you seriously are looking to fill holes in a Gonion/Onigon collection let me know, because there are a few that I've already got sitting in Mandarake for like $13 a pop :D

Is it okay to push the RxH-hoarding soccer moms to the floor, though? Please?

Until it becomes a zero tolerance issue on this board, it's going to continue.

And every time I see it I'm going to call it out. You naysayers who want this to be a "nicer board", forget it. I'm calling people out from now on. All of you toy hoarders can suck it.

Seems to me these hoarders must be very young and in it for the quick buck/up trade. The smart thing would be to hold on to figures for a few years until they becomes really coveted, let them show up in the new mook, then quietly put one up for $500-$600. Then you could watch everyone fall all over themselves oohing and aahing on what a great deal and how someone should really snatch that up and how it's a bargain at that price. Now that's what I call hoarding or a really smart business move. Of coarse there's not any people on here that would actually be so greedy. Eh?

Or... they could just buy one for themselves (if they actually like the figure), and leave the duplicates for other people who would love to have an opportunity to get them at retail as they come out - not having the deal with the duplicate hording speculators out for a quick buck.

I couldn't agree with you more. I was merely trying to point out that there seems to me to be more than one breed of hoarder on SB. Those that are rightfully vilified and those that in some skewed way are looked up to. But what do I know I'm not an authority on hoarding by any means.

Post Re: Toy Hoarders
Hoarding long term is extremely risky.

Not a whole lot of toys are safe investments and most people with the money to throw around like these guys are doing know this.

Kids rarely have the kind of money involved here.

Most SBers who collect are doing it out of passion without the intention of selling or trading, if it has no value they don't care because the toy makes them happy.

There's a newer element of collector here that are basically just being douche bags.

Trying to trade up to rarer pieces with new toys unlikely to be nearly as collectable long term is just shitty.

The folks with the rare stuff the hoarders want aren't naive enough to do these trades so hoarding just jacks up the prices on the new stuff.

How do people feel about that Anraku collection that contains multiples of the same figure. People seemed to be genuinely impressed in the thread, but it seems awfully weird to me. It appears the person has a true appreciation for Anraku, but I just don't get why they need 4 or 5 of the same figure. And when they're extremely rare and other people want one it just seems selfish.

I think most people were just envious of those Anraku collection shots. Why would anybody want more than 1 of a given item? It's beyond me. If it's a different paint application i can see collectiong more than one of a sculpt, but 4 of the exact same item? Why?

That's his deal with his collection.
My thought is that he collects so many due to the differences in paint application and love for the sculpt.

He and I have discussed this before, and he has no intention of getting rid of most of that stuff at any point.

While I don't agree with it, it seems more understandable to me that he collects anraku the way he does.

What I have issue with is the people who see new figures pop up online and buy them with no interest in it at all, but buy it to hold over other peoples heads. After that pink evil came out, I got a pm asking to trade for anraku. seriously. didn't even have the damn thing in hand yet.

Needless to say, there are scumbags everywhere and when something is popular they cash in. I think we're all guilty of it at some point, but going to the extent of buying 3 or 4 of the same figure is obnoxious.

I have noticed that a vast majority of the items I have bought in the past have actually suffered a pretty substantial decrease in value and are constantly being sold for way way less than what they actually retailed for... seems like it makes no difference when it comes to hoarding such items regardless of how long you hold on to them due to this apparent fact. It only makes a difference when the item is declared a must have lord bemon goga exo shrine of ojo boogie coveted piece of plastic barbeque

example...

Kozik Pickle Chaos...

Roto Chaos...

Hone Borgs...

any regular produced Eyezon...

MPH Murder Dam...

Clear Max Toy Dams...

Acid Dams...

Dokugans...

anything from the Undead Series...

can't even give away a fucking Jinga these days...

etc... etc... etc... the list goes on and on and on...

Most of the hoarding seems to be concentrated in the RxH market.
I have to laugh when I see someone say offering up a month old piece (even if its kinda rare) for older stuff.
I'll fucking wait it out, even if we're talking 5-10 years, than release stuff from my collection.

I'm also at the point where if I miss something, I miss something. Next.

Kinda related to this but who was the douchebag who was buying up multiple KxP Bronzes back in 2005?
AddDude? He was turning around and reselling them. Fucked up the market.
