 Airline advise
Okay so I'm planning on making the trip to San Fancisco in October. So right now I'm looking into flights.
I HATE to fly so I want to pick an airline that is known for being pretty decent. So far the 2 airlines that are leaving around the time I want are either virgin or delta ??
Are either of these 2 decent ??
There is also Jet blue or American but they leave later in the night.
Are they all the same ??
As well I'm making it a direct flight JFK to SFO, is SFO close to S7 and Japan Town or shoud I plan on renting a car.
I doubt I will be doing much roaming around as I don't know the area not to mention I hope I can get some local members to show me around and hang out.
Any good advise before I just go with whatever ?

 Re: Airline advise
try virgin america. They dont fly out of many cities but fly out of both. the most relaxing flight ive ever had. Plus it was dirt cheap since they have limited cities.

 Re: Airline advise
To me most airlines are pretty standard. Sometimes you get crap service and delays othertimes they roll smoothly. I fly alaska air to washington and sometimes it's been really good and other times so so.
That being said...Jet blue is supposed to be really really good.

 Re: Airline advise
They also have their own touchscreen TVs with Live tv, video games(doom anybody?). I was flying home to dc and good friend happen to be on the same flight. Soon after we were in the air a window popped up asking me if wanted to chat with him. The virgin flights let you chat with someone in another seat via a PM program. crazy. Oh and Don't forget the mood lighting.

 Re: Airline advise
SFO is a good distance from S7. However, you can take the BART (which is right at the airport) into downtown SF and probably find a bus or taxi to take you to Japan town. Where are you staying?

 Re: Airline advise
By the way, I would not recommend renting a car, unless you have a good place to park.

 Re: Airline advise
remember! SFO airport isn't in SFO! but there is BART (sort of like a subway), and you can take that to get to alot of places i believe that's how atease did it this weekend (took BART then a cab) http://www.bart.gov/

 Re: Airline advise
It's super easy to get there-
take BART and get off at the Market/New Montgomery station (roughly 30 min from the airport) and then take a 38 Geary (about 30 min, and if you take the right exit out you'll be right next to this bus stop) and get off at Geary/Laguna, then just walk up the street to Post and take a left!
With the airlines, kinda depends, my boyfriend thought Virgin was great, but so far, they've been the only airline to consistently piss me off for different reasons

 Re: Airline advise
Yeah, SFO is just outside SF (or I guess it's South SF?), but it's only like 10-15 miles or so from Downtown. Really close actually, though traffic is pretty bad at certain hours. I say take the BART and catch a cab, or have someone who lives in SF pick you up. Really not that bad. You'll learn that everything is really close to each other. San Jose is like half an hour from SFO, Santa Cruz another half hour from there, and Berkeley and Oakland are just a quick drive over the Bay Bridge. Beware of traffic though! Can't stress that enough, especially in the SF, Berkeley, Oakland area in the morning and during rush hour.

 Re: Airline advise
Either Virgin or JetBlue will be seriously, noticeably better than either of your other options.
Hotel Tomo is cool, though furnishings are essentially Ikea. It is right around the corner (through the Japan Center plaza) from S7. Ask Tomo for a 'balcony' room when you check in - I got one for the regular room rate by asking at checkin. (They also have gaming suites with PS3s and giant TVs.)

 Re: Airline advise
One nice feature on Virgin's site...after you plug in your dates, it will give you info on all the flights leaving that week so you can pick the cheapest one that works for you. I've never flown Virgin but I have flown JetBlue and I did like having the leg space. If you really don't care about the airline you take, go to http://www.priceline.com to check for the lowest airfare. I've used it and it actually works. If you take BART from SFO, I would get off at Montgomery and walk over to Sutter Street. The bus on Sutter may not run as frequent but, it is also a lot less crowded. Take the 2 Sutter or 4 Clement and it will drop you off across the street from Tomo. However, these buses run through the Financial District so at rush hour, it does get pretty full. You'll have to queue up with the rest of the savages. Your stop will be Buchanan. If you take the 38 Geary, you'll walke 2-3 blocks depending on which bus you take and what stop you get off at. The 38 runs a local and express. Both will stop at Japantown. Anyway, I sent you a pm that might solve one problem.

 Re: Airline advise
I just got back into town. I had a nightmare of an experience flying US Airways. I'm pretty sure riding in the cargo hold of a Fed Ex jet is a more comfortable experience.

 Re: Airline advise
Last year I flew Continental to Paris and back and my god was it horrible - I had NO leg room, and because of this my lower back got fucked. After the trip back I literally could not stand up straight - bent about 45* at the waist, and couldn't even straighten out my back when laying in bed. Excruciating pain. I'm still angry about it to this day. I'm tall, but nothing out of the ordinary - 6'2" - I should be allowed to sit comfortably without upgrading to 1st class.

 Re: Airline advise
rich it's pretty easy to get to the store and Japantown via the BART.
don't follow the bart's website when they tell you to get off at civic center. take the bart to powell and walk up to post and catch a cab to the shop. i walked it out there today, but with luggage it would be a bit tough.
oh and the cab ride from civic center to the shop was about $8 or $9
