why is hedorah the most popular monster ever all of a sudden
seriously. I don't really get it. I like the guy and all, but I don't understand why there are companies that seem to make toys of only him. I know it might sound blashphemous, but I don't even think a lot of the sculpts are that nice.
explain to me why you guys (and everyone else apparently) are so crazy for him?

i like really quirky and weird looking toys. I'm not as interested in more dinorsaur-styled characters nor the endless colorways of fight stuff (yet another blasphemy). A lot of the hedorah toys (traditional and otherwise) fufil that need for just plain odd characters for me.
Hedorah is something that either you like or you don't like... but how could you hate a face like this:
wubba wubba!

well I mean, don't get me wrong, I like me some Hedorah. have ever since I was a kid.
and I understand where you're coming from with liking quirky characters.
I just think it seems sorta out of nowhere that there are companies that make almost entirely hedorah toys. there are so many other cool guys.
I mean, what about Gigan? why is there no Gigan love?
poor Gigan.

I think it's because you can tweak the Hedorah sculpt enough to avoid trademark problems without actually confusing anyone at all with what the sculpt is supposed to be of. Also - with a pollution monster, the skies the limit on weird color combos and paint effects.
Personally I want more Matango.

I think the slitherly drippy messy sculpts (like the Bemons) are a great contrast to the smooth crisp lines of other sculpts. And I love the colorways and GIDs. They also look tremendous with 420 or so I have heard.

I really don't like 90% of the Hedorah toys out there, but the original Bullmark one is up there. The Japan-issue one is just downright sickly looking, while the Hawaii-issue one is a complete contrast to that, like a huge wad of bright chewing gum that was rolled through a flower bed.
(Also, am I the only one who looks at the paint scheme for the original Bullmarks and sees something that's somewhat, uh, gynecological?)
Of course, the 1990s Bandai toy is the best one in terms of realism, but a couple of the recent ones are noteworthy. The Charactics minis look downright edible, and the 40 cm Marusan one is nearly perfect (once a glow version is released, it will be.)
I am not a fan of Hedoran. It reminds me of something you'd see on Scooby Doo.

I like some of the hedorah(n) a lot; others not so much. Personal preference, I guess, just like most of these toys.

 hedorah is a beautiful thing
Check the gargamel section for a little preview of some hedoran sexiness.
Who can resist the lure of the gloopy globby smog of hedorah. Perfect day for me to get this pic.
Bwana.

hedorah=abstract art. More on concept than execution. More realistic than a dinosaur being resurected. Complete and utterly powerfull over the solid character. All hedorah theoretically has to do is get his slime on your pores and it's over. This is very similar to the toxic threats we face today. so so scary.

Thanks, peppsee! I don't take it hard. Just continue to wonder at the "complaints" when I post pics.... Not sure what to think. Either peeps are envious of what I have (doubt this for some) or worried about post counts (which is stupid), or some other reason. But again, this is a fan siite SUPPOSEDLY so why can't fans post pics of what they are fans of?

Even though you dont reply to much I say.. I love looking at your posts. You always have great shots of toys I would never like. But now do because you presented them in a great way.
I dont understand why people hate on what others like. If your happy than thats all that matters.
Keep it up geo you have turned me on to figures I would never consider.

Skylar,
I just figured your game out... make everyone start searching out hedorahs, something that you don't really care about and move the attention away from the new awesome toy line you've discovered.... You think your so damn smart....
i'm keeping an eye on you, skylar.... maybe two eyes...

Hedorah is such a stylistically oddball character, whcih is why I think he is so popular. He does not look like anything you can reference easily, unlilke godzilla, gigan, etc. The really unique characters usually become some of the most desired because they are the most surreal, much how creature from the black lagoon has the largest following and commands the most money in the universal monsters line-up.

Come on! This is a discussion as to why people like Hedorah et al and you post a picture. Seemed very pointless. If you had done so and wrote what you did a few posts after then fair enough. Otherwise, why bother?

I posted the picture because the image speaks for itself. People like the hedorah because some of them look very cool. Doh!
I am just going to ignore the nitpickers (bad pun) from now on, and accept that some folks will take pot shots or complain no matter what.
