 Kaiju Collector Online Database for...collectors!
Howdy ya'll -
So one project that I'm working on is an online database for ALL collectors to catalog their collections!
KaijuCollector.com (registered name, no active domain yet) will be a place for collectors to register, then have database space to catalog their vast collection of vinyl. You will be able to enter in all info about the individual vinyl along with photos.
This way each and every one of us will have total access at any time to our collection! How many times were you at work, see something that was a good deal and buy it only to find you already had one?
The first version of the site will be the basics -- a future version will actually be a desktop app that is browser-free, however tied-in with the online site so you can still update stuff at home and check it out on the web at, say, a store or friend's house.
And to be a total tool the site (so far) is iPhone friendly so fellow dorks with the "must-have" phone can show off while buying vinyl.
Let me know your thoughts!

Sounds cool, I belong to a similar site, comicbookcollector.com, and it works pretty well, but is a little over produced.I dont think I own enough Kaiju or Jp vinyl to not be able to remember whats in my collection though, you must be kaiju ballin'!

Will this be different than the Super7 one?

bannedindc, do you mean the show your collections thread or does S7 have something else?
Anyway, I like this idea. My collection is relatively small, but I dunno...maybe I'd use it one day. Until then, it would be cool to see what other people's collections are like.

I use flickr to somewhat catalog my collection already. It's easy and pretty handy sometimes.

Re: Kaiju Collector Online Database for...collectors!
it sounds like super 7 is just making a db/archive of all kaiju toys.
and it sounds like this guy wants to create a site where people can keep a db of their own collections.

I like the idea of it..but I tend to be pretty lazy and probably wouldn't use it. I haven't even taken pictures of any of the stuff I have because I don't have a good camera.

Re: Kaiju Collector Online Database for...collectors!
it's free and DIY so you can add as few or as many as you want. and it's personal. There are more than enough community sites out there but what happened to the sites that are there for the individual? Now that I think of it, I should add in a "wishlist" tab on the user page so that people can not only keep track of their own kaiju but could also have an ongoing list of what they'd like to get and where.

Re: Kaiju Collector Online Database for...collectors!
I'd like to see someone create a kaiju database site that works exactly like discogs.com did for music catalog. Completely driven by input from everyone (submissions) that need approval from mods (so it doesn't get too crazy with duplicates etc etc). The greatest thing about discogs is that you can catalog your entire collection and browse other peoples collections. Then they added the feature where you can buy/see/keep a wantlist, which makes it all too easy to find something you've searched for forever at the best price. someone better do it or I will.... C.
