Post karma....
i always wondered if bad/good karma worked it's way into our lives.

last week my boss' sister died of a heart attack and he didn't even go to her funeral because he didn't want to take work off and his reaction to her death was "shit happens." Exactly one week later (yesterday), he died of a massive heart attack. it's crazy how that stuff happens...

Damn, that sucks.
I tend to try getting good karma instead of bad.

I think it depends on the religion in terms of how it's inacted...(lifetime after lifetime or action over action) but the basic concept is cause and effect.

I briefly believed in karma but I soon realized that I was only embracing the idea because good things were happening to me. Then I went back to being an atheist.

also with authentic school girl 'panties'

even typing that word makes me shiver...

i like the concept of karma but i don't think it works, it's like the christian thing 'do unto others as you would have done unto yourself' or something like that. but in practice people are selfish cruel fucks

And if you're stuck in a Karmic loop, the misdeeds you did in your past life could very well be the same ones you committed in the present life--meaning that you are self-perpetuating your bad karma by not learning intuitively from the past lives you have no conscious knowledge of living.

That may be true, but at least I can live with myself for doing the right thing, even if others choose not to.

I do good things only because of an expectation of an eventual reward. :P

You don't need to subscribe to the karma philosophy to be a nice person.

Post Re: karma....
I do not subscribe to any religion (though from what I've learned of Buddhism, it seems closest to my own personal beliefs.). Call it Karma, call it whatever you want, but I do believe you reap what you sow. I know how I was treated by the world when I treated others like shit, and I know how the world treats me now that I have changed my outlook. It is night and day. Does this mean that nothing bad ever happens to me? Of course not. Does it mean that nothing but bad happens to those who do wrong? Again, of course not, but I do believe the scales get balanced in the end.

oi don't steal my thunder I used that joke!

hillsy, I like to think I also do the right thing. and like you say, it all comes down to if people can live with their actions... but doing 'right' is such a subjective thing

I don't think it really is...at least not in commonly accepted terms. Not treating others like shit, trying your hardest to not infringe on the rights of others, helping those in need, hell...just being considerate. These concepts aren't really that subjective.

maybe so, but where do you draw the line? at your family? your friends? your community? your fellow countrymen? everyone in the world? There are so many divisions in the world that cause hate. race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, these are all things which cause people to not treat others well. Then there's greed, power, money, and these things do the same.

i dunno, i guess we're probably looking at different scales and i'm a negative nancy
