Post Store Auction?
Will S7 be having another auction like last year or was that just a one time thing? It was pretty fun to watch and see what people went after.

EDIT: stupid post. I confused the auction with the estate sale. Not the same thing.

There were things auctioned online as well as in-store.

IIRC, S7 didn't run the online auction quite like a typical auction either (naturally!) - The thread may still be here somewhere (though a quick hunt didn't find it), but I believe I remember that you had to submit from the list a) which items you wanted, b) your sealed bid amount for each one, and c) the order of their priority to you. Once you were the high bidder on one item, you were out of the hunt for any of your other, lower-ranked items (or at least any of those that also appeared on anyone else's list), to assure that as many members as possible got at least one auction item.

(I admit, I was never 100% clear about just how this one-item-per-person/list-by-priority/win-by-bid system worked - For example, if for a certain item A bid the highest $ amount, it was his only listed item for which he was the highest bidder, but he had put it last on his priority list, while B bid less for it, but B had it higher (or even first) on his priority list, who got it? Presumably A wins it, but it does seem that this could generate some weird results. Maybe A could have become the high bidder on other items if/after some other winners won their one item and had their other bids tossed? Because you could only win one item and thereafter your other bids didn't 'count,' it seemed like the results as to who-got-what (and at what price) could vary all over the place depending on which item, or which bidder's list, S7 started the whole process with! I expect there is some higher-math way to resolve this cleanly and clearly, but it's probably something involving recursive calculations and imaginary numbers like eleventeen and seventy-twelve.)

It was also done as a 'datadub auction' format (IIRC), in that the high bidder won the item, but only had to pay the amount bid by the second-highest bidder on that item (am I remembering it right that this was then called a 'datadub format' auction?). I think I got the Pachi Summit black Chaos at last year's S7 auction - It did have great, tall pilesof rare and wondrous stuff to choose from.

There should be no auctions on this board unless everyone can auction toys. If that happened, what would be the difference between skullbrain and ebay?

Post Re: Store Auction?
When we did the auctions the two times previously, it was because we had toys that had sold at ridiculously high prices, and we were uncomfortable selling those items at those prices. We made it a bid system, sealed only so that no one was escalating prices through multiple bids. We made it one item only to spread the toys around and so that one or two people would not buy 15 pieces while other people got nothing.

As a direct answer, if bidder a bid on their number1 item for $100 and their number2 item for $100, and won the number1 item. The number2 item could be sold to another person for a winning bid of $30. In fact this happened a lot, as people bid on many similar items, negating bids for other items. We ended up with a bunch of non-bid items, that we did a round robin for.

I thought it was pretty fair, and that no one felt that they overpaid for anything.

It was very fun and very fair! I didn't end up winning anything, but still had a fun time submitting my bids. I guess it's true that people will always find something to complain about (I know I do my fair share of complaining!) - but I just don't see how anyone could have hard feelings over this.
