Re: New Be@rbrick and Kubrick Message board
Well now...I guess the story can be told about Kubrick World!
For many years I ran the site - the glory years of the 'bricks were a great time and my love for Kubricks spawned the long running site.
The one thing that was a constant struggle was a steady hosting service. The first one that KW was on worked out well...until repeated attacks from hackers in China and HK caused the server to go belly up and most of us lost a good chunk of our work / sites. The guy who was hosting decided to close up shop since he was perpetually fending off these hackers -- who were going after other sites that had shopping site options.
KW was then moved over to a company out of Canada who was steady for about a month...then vanished leaving people high and dry AND no access to any of their files.
This ongoing struggle was time consuming -- along with keeping up with interest from third parties (i.e. media) who were doing more stories on Kubricks / Be@rbricks and the whole vinyl / designer toy craze.
I think, though, the biggest hit that KW took was...a wanning interest in Kubricks. At first, Medicom had no interest in designing for buyers outside of Japan. Up to the point where Diamond Comics did the distro for certain lines it was nearly impossible to get your hands on the figures. These days you can find 'em in Hot Topic, Urban Outfitters, record shops, etc. That drive for hunting for a Kubrick...then finding it and knowing that the effort paid off for some limited figure was disappearing. Too many Kubrick lines popped up, along with lines that kept on going on, and on, and on...
Slowly the vinyl bug was taking hold of my interest. As a child growing up in the 1970's the influence of Kaiju and Henshin movies and TV shows were a major part of my life. 25+ years later I have money coming in where I could indulge in the toys that I couldn't buy when I was young.
So now my shelves are filled with vinyl from Marmit, M1, CCP and other companies

And that's the story of Kubrick World! The closing of the doors was hard. The community that was built had the best people and ones that I could call "friends". Who also probably curse my name by now
Oh yeah, on a side-note...the KW collection is up for sale. I have a spreadsheet with all of the figures I have so if anyone is looking for something lemme know. Or I can post a link for the .cvs file if that might help.
