Post Macross Frontier - in San Francisco (kinda)
Has anyone else been watching any downloads of Macross Frontier? It's the 25th anniversary of Macross, and the new series is set aboard large floating cities in space, and the main characters are based in an amalgamation of San Francisco and another Japanese city (starts with an "O", but I can't remember right now).

Anyway, in the latest episode, they had the characters roaming around the city, and they showed actual storefronts from SF... Pipe Dreams, and some costume store I think - which property has a pair of women's legs sticking out over the door?

It would probably be a little too self-referential for them to include a store like S7 in it, but at least they didn't have KR in it. :D

Saw the first episode. Bleh, but then again I was never crazy about any of the Macross sequels.

I seem to remember that there was a stop for Shibuya on the train in the first episode.

I think it's hilarious that the characters go to a high school shaped like the SDF-1.

I like the new Valkyrie Designs... much nicer than almost anything since the original series. Never cared much for the Macross Plus designs.

So far, it's not horrible... kinda cute, but probably sticks too closely to the original to throw in any major curves... at least so far.

Still need to see 4 and 5. I've enjoyed it so far.

The idea of floating space colonies reminds me of, uh... what was that series that starts with a "G"?

I just got season 2.5 and season 3 of that other "g" show... I hear it just gets darker and grimmer as it goes along... I don't think we have to worry about that with Macross-F... Ranka Lee is just too darn plucky for that to happen.

awesome series so far. I really like the dog fights, and none of the characters are super annoying (yet).

Another Anime that came out this Spring is Golgo 13. Apparently they are doing like 40-50 episodes.

Togo is the man.

I really dislike the new VF-25 Valkyries. They look like origami, too many sharp angles and stuff that doesn't make it look like a manufactured military machine. Plus the robot mode is incredibly lanky. They even took the old VF-17 and did the same thing to the design so that it's nearly indistinguishable.

They did bring back the old Queadluun-Rau powered suit. I'd love to see toys of it but I'm not holding my breath.

Some of the source material for Megazone 23 used the concept of multiple ark ships preserving different eras: #23 was late 20th century Japan, another was 1950s New York, etc. That info is here.

Best series I've seen in a while was a little series about a female Kendo club team, called "Bamboo Blade"... best characters I've seen in a while for me. I'm still hoping for a season 2 of it, but nothing yet. If you get a chance to check it out, it's definitely worth the time.

I want a Red Blade Braver figure...

Me and my Fiance watched the first few episodes, the crazy bi-polar girl and the wounder-girl 10 year old are awesome. I've got to stay out of here. I could go on about Anime for hours and hours.

A little bit off-topic, but you guys should check out Kemonozume if you haven't. I don't know if it's out officially outside of Japan or not, but if not I'm pretty sure there are ways to...obtain...it.

Very cool, short series (13 episodes) with art by Madhouse, so it's got a lot of wonky perspectives and irregular lines. Nothing sleek or clean about it, it looks like it was drawn by a 6 year old who just finished design college. The basic premise sounds pretty cliche: shape shifting monsters vs. a martial arts group dedicated to hunting them, but the story is actually funny and pretty well told.

Best part is the cool designs on the monsters, robots and ninja's suits!

just watched episode 1 on You tube.

aside from the corny music, I liked the battle scenes and new designs on both sides. New SF looks pretty cool too!

where can i watch the rest?

There are torrents out there, and I believe it's being fansubbed pretty quickly.
