 Re: McCain picks Palin
Recently, I've watched several campaign speeches (by all the Pres and VP candidates) on CNN.com. Their live video feeds are cool.
Obama just delivered a very impressive speech on the financial crisis, linking it to the bubble/bust cycle under Reagan and hammering at the flawed ideology of trickle down economics. I noticed the same thing a while ago but have been surprised not to hear other politicians point it out during this election cycle.
Anyway, Obama was concrete and solution oriented. His ideas were specific and forward looking.
I really have to wonder if the US's "race problem" is what's keeping his polling numbers below 55-60%. The guy is freaking brilliant.

A good number of people in the US are very ignorant. I live in a semi-small town and there is plenty of racisim here. It's very sad that we live in such a modern world but it's still a problem/issue. Plenty of people think he's a terrorist, how fucking stupid is that? I'm really hoping that Obama and Biden continue on with their economic views. I know McCain has once again been making claims of things he'll change but he has no say over. So stupid, but the point is he really hasn't laid anything out. Palins popularity is also on the downhill now so hopefully that will keep up as well. The past few days have been good to the Dems and I really hope that continues.

I don't think it's sexist in any way.

I don't think it's sexist in any way. I agree totally...ANYONE running for the position of Pres. or VP should expect to have every skeleton in his or her closet pulled out and inspected bone by bone. There is nothing sexist about knowing who is going to be running our government. The people still troubled by the race issue or Obama's name were going to vote Republican (if at all) anyway...I think it is safe to generalize that they would prefer the status quo of the good ol' doofus in office rather than the unknown liberal... Election year is the only time that I wish time would move quicker...c'mon November!

"Wesson"? Probably as in Smith and Wesson. I mean, it's not as odd as "Trig" or "Track."

Quote: The people still troubled by the race issue or Obama's name were going to vote Republican (if at all) anyway I wish I could believe this, but I don't. I think there are quite a few older liberals out there who talk a good game and say they aren't racist but when it comes to actually putting a black man (or a woman for that matter, had Hillary won) in as president, they are going to balk. I believe that have an antiquated image in their minds of what a 'President' looks like and it's that of a mature white male. I hope I am wrong, but I've actually heard a few people I know are liberals to the core (uncles, aunts, etc.) saying they still haven't 'made up their mind' on the election.. It's hard to imagine what reservations they may have about Obama other than he looks very different from what they are used to.

Kinda related... McCain believes that Spain is a Rogue State in Latin America quote: Late Update: So McCain is the candidate with the foreign policy experience ready to lead on day one. But he doesn't know who the leader of Spain is. He gets confused in an interview, apparently thinking Zapatero is someone from Latin America who is an enemy of the United States and manages to create a minor international incident. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/217710.php

 Re: McCain picks Palin
I was listening to a Weekend America podcast about McCain being a craps player and Obama being a poker player. Basically saying that craps players don't truly make decisions, but leave things up to chance, and that poker players analyze each situation and due to the nature of the game they have a hand in the outcome. Basically, McCain will make hasty decisions and let things happen as they happen, and Obama will analyze the situation and come up with a strategy that will make it more likely that his desired outcome will come to be. They also noted that there have been many poker-playing presidents, but there has never been a craps-playing president. On another note, I found it interesting that during my visit to Arizona I didn't see a single McCain sticker/sign. I went down expecting to see the entire state covered in McCain '08 signage, but the only presidential signage I saw was a single Obama bumper sticker. I was also pleased to hear my grandma say that McCain is way too old to be president and that if she was able to she would vote for Obama...unfortunately she won't be around to cast a vote.

McCain believes that Spain is a Rogue State in Latin America It's entertaining, but really won't have any impact on the campaign. George Bush didn't know who General Musharraf was and he thought the Taliban was a musical group. He got elected twice.

Re: McCain picks Palin (and other election discussion)
That article is making the rounds. It even showed up in a Taiwanese newspaper!
Anyway, that's exactly what I was referring to when I mentioned the US's race problem. It's not the media at fault, but the conscience of the populous.
Well, the whole damned thing is going to come down to a few states again, and they're all super tight races. I just hope people considering voting for an independent candidate will reconsider. The stakes are so high in this election, and I just can't see how anyone could equate Obama/Biden with McCain/Palin, as if to suggest all mainstream politicians are the same. Does anyone really want to take the risk that Sarah Palin could become president?

At my work on Saturday a woman wouldn't stop talking about how much she loved Palin and actually wished that it was her running for President. She said she was a DEM but she wants to see a woman in the White House so they'll be getting her vote. I puked inside my mouth when I heard that.

Im sorry- but as wrong as it sounds, because Americia is such a powerful and influential country in the world, people really should have to pass a basic intelligence test in order to vote- theres just too much at stake here, either that or they should let the rest of the world vote also.

Not surprising that this viewpoint comes from someone who isn't American. ;p We used to prevent non-landowners, women, and people from certain religions and skin colors from voting, too. I like the idea of penalizing people who don't vote, like Australia does.

Though I do not support McCain, that is the dumbest psuedo-psychobable analysis I had ever heard! You can take any bit of subjective data and skew it to one person's advantage or viewpoint, if done with a political intention. For example, maybe McCain likes craps because is a more fast-paced game than poker, or maybe he just doesn't like card games. How does that factor into his descisions about other things like the economy? The answer: It doesn't! If someone uses my opinion of collecting Secret Base over Real Head, to say that I would be a shitty president...I would say that you can kiss the fattest part of my ass! If you are planning to vote, stick to the political issues and make throughly educated choices based on facts...not this dumb-ass shit.

Re: McCain picks Palin (and other election discussion)
Has anyone seen the latest bull shit? McCain is trying to cancel the Presidential debats on Friday and move them to next Thursday. Guess what else he's trying to do, call off the VP debates on you guessed it, next Thursday. How much more of this can go on? They are hiding Palin, the are flip-flopping like there is no tomorrow. If he becomes President I think it truly shows how ignorant people are. They also called out his campaign manager today saying that he was lobbying for Fannie and Freddy. He was getting payments up until last month! I'm glad to see a pretty good change in the polls though, granted they don't mean much. This shit is fueling my fire lately.
