She did fine during the GOP speeches and she'll be fine here. It's just when she's asked random questions...she stumbles I remember Bush stumbling a lot when he went up against Gore and that didn't matter one bit.

Re: McCain picks Palin (and other election discussion)
Man this debate sucks. It's all back an forth on mccain/biden/obama voting record. Sling it back an forth, back an forth. On energy no one even came up with a distinct plan. Everyone is for solving global warming but no one really is saying what alternate energy they'd use? Palin is gung ho to drill, and very mistakenly naive thinking there is this great Alaskan oil reserve. That seriously would not bring much energy to the US. Clean Coal? Are they fucking serious? Coal burning is no good in general, I don't care how clean you claim you can make it.

We get it, you're courting the religious right and WW3 along with wiping the planet out are on your agenda. Let's sell moral issues to the hicks that will get us in office and then do whatever makes us rich and powerful. Nate it's on cspan now live.... go watch it. Yeah I don't have cable either.

I am watching it live right now on TV. I am horrified by her use of the language. The folksy way of speaking she's affecting I feel belittles my intelligence.
Every time she says Maverick I think of Top Gun. XD

Re: McCain picks Palin (and other election discussion)
Ear phone in her glasses- she does not have the mental capacity to retain all of that infomation, even if it is written down infront of her. Also if you have ever heard an interpreter speak on the news, they speak in that erratic speech pattern like Palin, listening and repeating what is said. Listening and speaking at the same time gives you a dis-jointed speech pattern like her's, not punctuated sentences but a rolling waffle without clear points and breaks for emphisis. Watch it again and see what I mean- although that would mean the person prompting her is as stupid as she is and could not give straight answers, or in some cases any answer to the questions. What is your opinion about the recent banking crisis? Maverik, Maverik, Maverik.... Reaching across the isle.... Alsaka rich in oil....

Re: McCain picks Palin (and other election discussion)
Somewhere around 35 minutes into the debate is when it happened. Palin started off well. She was, at least at first, coherent and on point. But about half an hour into it, she faltered. She continued to stumble and stutter throughout the remainder of the debate. We were treated to the same Palin babble. Mindlessly regurgitating spoon fed one-liners, and dodging questions that she obviously just didn't know how to answer. Sure, staring into the camera and delivering Pavlovian triggers like "God Bless America!" and "ask any soccer mom!" might impress "Joe 6-Pack", but unfortunately, Mr. 6-Pack is also a voter. And really, Joe 6-Pack? Could she have chosen a more insulting name for the "ordinary American"? She repeatedly ignored moderators questions, blatantly informing her ahead of time that she'd like to discuss, or go back to, another topic. Repetition and wink-wink nudge-nudge catch phrases was the name of the game for Mrs. Palin this evening. Way to dumb it down, Sarah! Joe 6-Pack thanks you.

Joe 6-Pack ?! She really used that 'slang' to point out the average middle-of-the-road American citizen ? Talk about 'go stupid go dumb'... geez. We haven't seen the end of this 'comedy'.

Re: McCain picks Palin (and other election discussion)
Ha ha! Great flow chart - unfortunately not much of a parody. I was disappointed because I watched the debate to see another "Couric" moment, but there really wasn't one. But it didn't change my opnion of Palin one bit - she didn't offer any real information on what they would do if put in power, just "get the government back on the side of the people". Great plan. Tell me HOW you're going to do that. What I did find mildly amusing was when she was asked if she agreed with Cheney's interpretation of the role of the VP. She clearly didn't know what that was, or how to respond. All debate long she had been looking into the camera with her stupid little smirk-smirk, wink-wink, but when she stumbled through her answer to this question it was looking down at the podium and blinking a million times a minute.

Re: McCain picks Palin (and other election discussion)
You had to love the moment after the same-sex-marriage question where the crowd actually laughed at her.
Or: When she said "Talibani" and Biden could not stop laughing.
I thought she was a train wreck. She ignored questions, made up her own, and it seemed like all they taught her at training camp was "Smile and bat those eyes."

Re: McCain picks Palin (and other election discussion)
I actually blame Biden- He could have quite eaisly have ripped her to shreds and it was his duty as an 'American' to do so. In this situation Apathy is the same as complicity. I mean he made no effort to expose her as the retard she is and let her get away with it. I understand that it would have made him look bad with the female vote, but im sorry you need balls to be a good politician, and Pailin has none (not a gender issue as Hillary definately has balls.) If I was Biden I would have taken her down and hoped that the voters on the 4th had the sense to vote for the best politician and not literally give Palin the sympathy vote. If she cannot stand up to Joe Biden with his beautiful smile- how the fuck is she gonna survive with Putin?

Re: McCain picks Palin (and other election discussion)
I think the reaction to Palin holding her own and doing better than expected seems to be a little off, especially when you don't preface it with the public having such low expectations of the governor in the first place.
I heard most of it on my radio on the bus ride home, so I couldn't see that she was looking right into the cameras, but I could tell she was. I caught myself rolling my eyes whenever she'd say "you betcha" "darn right" and other "folksy" catchphrases.

Yeah, she doesn't speak like what I imagine those guys on the dollar bills would speak like (from me) (from Palin)
