im not going to lie. I like the black album. I haven't been compelled to listen to it since the 90's, but still.

I used to like the black album, but mainly just because it was the album that introduced me to Metallica. That & Nirvana Nevermind were the first 2 CD's I ever owned. At some point I pawned all of my Metallica albums as I had gotten into a rap phase in my late high school/early college years. The last couple of years I have been rebuilding my Metal & hard rock collection as it is the genre of music I have & will always love the most. Some of the album's I had yet to re-purchase were all of Metallica's and all of this talk of Metallica latley had made me miss them. I went to Best Buy last night & got Kill em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, & And Justice for All. Also picked up Rust In Peace from Megadeth. I forgot how awesome Master of Puppets is. The whole album is great, but Disposable Heroes was always my favorite. That song fucking rocks.

Here are words I think of when I think of the Black album:
Sterile
Boring
Clean
Soulless

Words I don't connect to great metal. The songs had POTENTIAL to be awesome, almost there, but not. The songs aren't BAD but they're just not GOOD. I feel no fire or aggression or spirit. That's why I don't like the Black album. I don't HATE it, I'd have to feel some sort of passion towards something to hate it. Black album can't even enduce that from me.

I got some tickets to the show. Haven't even heard the new album. If it sucks, at least I'll hear some great old songs and I'll pick up a couple pus-art t-shirts.

For the first time flipping through the entire new disc. Most of the songs sound so alike they're basically all interchangeable. A couple of old school reeking 'thrash' riffs here and there, but baked in a generic/dull sauce. Expected 'em to turn it up a notch of the speed but nah. They missed another chance to return to full form...

Metallica actually sucks now. They are now only condemned to play Sanitarium, One & Masters in everyone of their shows. I actually saw the live and it was the longest concert ever, very dreggy. Got damn Ulrich, if only he had died instead of Cliff, Metallica would be so much better off. It is Ulrich who wanted Bob Rock to be the producer. Ulrich is the Paul McCartney of Metallica, He made Metallica soft.

LOL, I've ignored this album (with the exception for 1 song to "sample" it) all this time, just getting around to listening. WTF, "Unforgiven III?" Fuck you Metallica, it was lame enough you did a sequel to a song in the first place, but a whole trilogy now? I'll say it again, fuck you Metallica!

What might be the worst thing about this album is it seems like they tried. They really did, "hey let's just play fast again and 'thrash' and make the songs all long and crap!" But it didn't matter. Still soulless. Still uninspired. No real anger or passion, just repeating steps they think they have to take. Rubin seems to have done his job, the production is nice (what isn't next to clean and boring Bob Rock?) But Rubin can only do so much.

I have a few friends DEEP in denial. They're all "no way man, it's just like back in the day" than I remind them that NOTHING is like "back in the day" nostalgia's fine as long as you leave the past where it is and appreciate it for that. They still tell me to shut up, angered because they know I'm right.

I'm happy with "Kill Em' All" - "Master..." and don't feel I need anything else. Metallicas death is slow and boring. The only good thing they've done in years is being voices on "Metalocalypse" and I wish they'd face it all. Just stop.

i think i heard a new track on the radio, and theyr promoting it as their best album in the past decade (which made me think"that doesnt mean much" ) it sounded TERRIBLE. i can imagine the whole process... must write lyrics, must write lyrics, oh wait? what are lyrics? oh! and write some "heavy" music to go with it... yeah! we can be a rock band again!

just reminded me of that hilarious movie where they all throw fits and go to therapy. now THAT was funny, this just pathetic. oh and if it wasnt a new track, if it was from the last album, i dont want to hear ANYTHING off the new one.

Modern Metallica be damned, I just unlocked "Battery" from the Rock Band 2 songlist and playing it on toy guitar is AWESOME!

I gave the album a couple weeks to settle in. I thought there was a couple songs that were pretty good including Unforgiven III. I was glad Kirk Hammett is doing solos again. The solo in Unforgiven III reminded me of his amazing guitar abilities. But it's been awhile since I listened to Metallica and put on some old stuff including the original Unforgiven. I hate to say it because I wanted Metallica back but the magic that was there is lost now. They actually lost it awhile ago and this is just another nail in the coffin. Maybe they would make better music if they started drinking again and brought Dave Mustain back. A few years ago I saw them live. There was a guy with a banner that read "No new shit". Perhaps he'll bring it out again. But I am looking forward to the t-shirts.

A friend of mine caught up with the media, on the rave review he had heard regarding the new Met album. So he parted with his hard earn cash to purchase the CD. Dude was totally dissapointed.

If Rick Ruben, master of all reinventions can't save Met, then let them be damned..

Bob - Metallica have been dying a slow death for a while...The Black album gave them this massive aminstream exposure (because IMO it was soft, over produced crap but what the hey) and they hung around with Bob Rock far too long. The moment that summed it up more than anything was when Rock handed that electric toothbrush to Kirk in Soem Kind of Monster and he looked at it that could define the phrase "WTF?!".

The new album hints at them finding their feet again but I can't help but feel that lyrically the fire has gone out in James.
