What a great series of shots. I can't wait until I land some of these. Did the Platoon 1 set land in the US? I seem to have missed them again...

 Re: Toygraph Space Troopers
of course,,the low-level of production numbers makes wholesale prices impossible...
you also have to factor in: importing,,shipping,,customs,,,duties
to expect to get anything at japanese retail outside of japan is not realistic...

 Re: Toygraph Space Troopers
you think more so than the rXh minis???
probably a close tie.....
i love the troopers,,,i am pretty much complete up to now...just making sure not to spend ridiculous over-US retail on them...
wise move,,,but i bet they will be going for under-us retail on the secondary market in a short amount of time (much like the rXh minis)....
what has amused me most about the mass sell-off of rXh minis is the percentage that are MIB,,as if people never displayed them or were stock piling extras MIB as "investment"....
i had to build new shelfs for my rxh minis,,,now i need to come up with some cunning plans for the amassing troopers..

 Re: Toygraph Space Troopers
I think this is the massive difference between the retarded rxh minis and the toygraph space troopers. These draw on a lot of peoples childhood memories and retro things, where the rxh minis were just mini figures of figures that were "hot" at the time, and have since drastically cooled.

 Re: Toygraph Space Troopers
I hope hype dies on these like the RxH minis. I wasn't willing/able to do the whole thing with those, I'm not willing to do it with these either. It's much nicer now, I can get what I want nice and slowly. I dig these, a lot, but not enough to go nuts.
I like the chainsaw arm guy a lot, and the sword arm guy. Something about them having weird arm attachments takes me back. But I'm not willing to cut off my nuts for any. It'd be cool if Toygraph put out a whole "loose parts" set. A bunch of random attachments/body parts so you could go nuts swapping arms/weapons/heads.
"Retarded" RxH minis? Ouch! Maybe the hype was, but I still love the figures. Hype sucks, toys don't. The reason I like RxH is very much the reason I like these.
I get a sense of nostalgia back to a lot of 80's toys I was into as a kid with RxH. He-Man and TMNT very much so, I wrote a whole rant about it once and compared them all in much more detail. RxH reminds me of stuff based on cartoons, more corporate sure, but when I was 7 I didn't care. As where these troopers remind me more of random generic toys that would come out with no show to back them and would be on sale at Kay-Bee 6 months after released and I'd save up my allowance/chore money for months to get them all at a steal.
I hope more random arm attachments get made though, that's my favorite part of these. Weapon and arm swapping have so much potential.

 Re: Toygraph Space Troopers
very valid point about the retro coolness of the troopers...
although,,i wouldn't call the rXh minis "retarded",,,,they are from that,,yes,,they have a cuteness factor which some may not like...
but the production on them is superb...even if they are miniature repro paint jobs.... as for the troopers,,they are much cruder (standing issues,,,not the neatest paint jobs,,attachment arms not joined perfectly),,but i still love 'em lots
i think it was the hype & fervor around the rxh minis that annoyed many people...and could possibly happen with the troopers...

 Re: Toygraph Space Troopers
Just stating my opinion. I only have the s7 set for the minis (to go with the s7 set, the only pieces I own besides chaoses), and once got them in hand was sad I wasted the cash on them, the things that I did like about rxh (mostly just the chaos) were missing in the minis. I never really got the hype on them, but then I never got the real head hype. I think you are both right with the fact that the toygraph could see burn out for the same reason that rxh (minis and in general did), massive amounts of quick releases, all too similar to really matter in the end. That said, I love the troopers but doubt I will pick up many more than I already have.

 Re: Toygraph Space Troopers
I don't know why people are getting all freaked out from trying to get these. They have been releasing them about 80 each which is high for this kind of toy.

 Re: Toygraph Space Troopers
I think the platoon is amazing. I still haven't gotten mine, but am very excited to get the four darker troops...love the new captain style too with the smaller gun and skull chest.
I feel like this has been sort of like the way the mass media is handling the financial situation. we've all been ranting about the hype so much, but many people seem to be scoring these with no problem. Maybe I'm missing something, but there haven't been too many of these flipped compared to the RxH minis at their height...I think we're just able to follow things a lot more closely than when RxH or Secret Base became hot...and thanks to the board we can go over every minute little detail about the situation.
no one talks about the hype of something like that new 2 headed Bemon, which I feel is more of a situation where it affects being able to get one...supply plays a role, as it did with the first few troopers...I think things will level off fairly soon. I don't think any of us want it to get to the point where we can get these at ToyRUs, right? isn't the challenge of collecting a major part of why it's fun to do?!?
if you like these, and can get them - do so...I love them (well, the first head anyway) but def. don't feel the need to buy every one...

 Re: Toygraph Space Troopers
Though there seem to be a few shops getting these, they sell out within hours (sometimes less) and I think that's where the talk of "hype" comes from. I've only had the chance to get 2 or 3 different ones, just didn't have the cash. But if they were up for even a few days (like the RxH minis now are, actually weeks now for them) than I'd have a better chance to get them/work out my money.
But, Lorne, you hit on something. Part of the fun is the hunt. Not the reason, not what "makes it" but it is part of it. None can deny it. Plus you feel extra proud and accomplished when you get something you've been after a while. Gotta be savy and put some work into this stuff!

 Re: Toygraph Space Troopers
I admit that I own a bunch of the RxH minis. Whatever.
But I don't think the Toygraph Space Troopers will crash and burn like minis. Yeah some have production issues, but they are more imaginative and creative than the minis which are basically retreads.
Maybe reach a point, after multiple releases, where some (like the AZ unpainted gray) drop in price or linger in the after markets. While others like the red or blue eyes or platoon or AZ painted purple become nearly impossible to find (or at a reasonable price).

 Re: Toygraph Space Troopers
nothing to be ashamed of liquid...of course,,the rxh mini paints are mostly repros/rehashes,,but there is something in the scuplts which continue to grab my attention....i will keep collecting them,,just need more shelves!!! as for the troopers,,by the sounds of the blog,,,only new variants & sculpts are upcoming,,,shouldn't get too stale,,but the release rate may be too relentless for some...(bliss for us obsessive masochistic types )

Doesn't matter - these too will become the things of Christmas past in the future. It happens to all Collectibles, no matter what. Collecting is Cyclical no matter what the field.
SPAWN figure anyone? Vintage Star Wars? Or how about some stuff closer to home & more recent - Gargamel Fight figures? SB? Regular size RxH?

Check with any dealer worth his salt and they will tell you the market is Flooded and the prices are DOWN - except for the VERY Rare stuff or MINT in sealed package. I know - I did it for YEARS! As for Gargamel Fights? Now you know why we don't see new ones around much anymore - not selling. Hey anybody need a Orange Bullmask from SDCC two years ago? I think S7 still has them in stock.......
