Post Taiwan Bootlegs from Italy, bought off ebay
Just won these guys off ebay! I think I paid a little too much, but I just love bootlegs. They are coming from Italy so I can take better photos when I get them. The guy says they were made in Taiwan but sold in Italy in the 70s. I guess the eyes also light up too! Anyone ever see these before?

Updated the photos so they load. Yep, with tag and original bag.

dang! I wouldn't have bid on these if I knew someone here wanted them. Glad to know they went to a good home.
I've seen images of them sitting on a counter top, possibly at the Cosmo Knight Alpha shop.

Yeah, I think the guy at CKA makes these all himself out of the broken toys that come in. Some are amazing, some are downright odd, but they all have a great feel to them.

Even the tags are very funky. Great score. I've heard you guys talk about CKA before...how far do I have to swim to get there?

there was a store in Pittsburgh at Century 3 Mall during the 80's called "Heaven". It was like a new wavey/punk store. I'm almost positive they sold the middle triceratops looking guy. I know they sold weird kaiju bootlegs and tin Astro Boy toys, along with odd Misfits shirts, just about any weird wind-up toy...lots of edgy t-shirts...

My friend Brian Corley had that guy.

Sounds like the perfect name for that store!

I think I remember going to a version of that store in Washington, D.C. Also, Commander Salamander if anyone remembers that.

Ahh, the 80s, when gift shops had really cool stuff.

Commander Salamander...i was there as a young lad...I think I bought a button or a zippered black vest..? Its funny now but it was always interesting to go to the bigger cities that had hot topic style "punk" stores...Zipperhead in Philly...

We had Scoop in Pittsburgh but I was too punk to walk in the door...Every time we went to Philly we made a stop at a Japanese toy store on South St. who's name I can't recall. They had a display window down the street with one of those giant Mazinga store display figures...

Anyways, thanks for posting these pictures, weird to see a toy you haven't laid eyes on in over 20 years

Spent some time combing Chinatown in nyc for bootlegs with no luck, a lot of powerranger & batman/spiderman bootlegs. Nothing like these.

Commander Salamander started as hair salon, changed into a punk clothing store and now is owned by a douchebag who also owns all the up against the wall stores. It's now a "urban" clothing store. Still in same location though in georgetown.

Chinatown nowadays doesn't have as much cool stuff as the past. Filled with designer knock-offs and BS like that. Nothing like the golden days of the 1980s where there were still stores simply selling "gray" market stuff that was just as good, but just not imported correctly. Man, those were the days.

I'd recommend checking out the chinatown in Brooklyn in Sunset Park or go deep on the Q line to Avenue U and Kings Highway. Asian population there has really grown.

Not too sure about Queens. But if you're up to being scoped out for being a cop and maybe have paranoid store owners follow you around no matter what you are, head over to "Little Africa" near the Flatiron district and right near FIT. That's historically where every street vendor in the city gets there wares and there are a few cool places that sell truly odd knockoffs. The negative is they are wholesalers, so you need to buy a case or a box of stuff. But the prices are cheap. I spotted a knock-off Voltron in on place where each lion also had a small toy pinball game shoved in it.

Also I recommend checking out Jack's 99 Cent store near Herald Square. They had some bizarre Gundam knock-offs last year around the holidays and such and other oddball crap.

Oh and this is a generic tip, but I've also spotted some cool stuff in Borough Park and the more religious parts of Kings Highway. It's never consistent, but I've gone into Kosher candy stores and beyond the stuff they have there's some odd box of old novelty stuff.

I think I have some day trips planned. :)

Sad, but hey. That's what happens. One day I have to photograph my old school 1980s pin-back and 1" button collection. Makes me wish I were more into the 1980s than I was in the 1980s. If that makes sense?
