 Ika ?
So as far as the Ika goe's, is it considered Western vinyl ? I assume it would be but then i've learned never to asume anything . I was also curious why it seems that so many people are selling off the Ika. Maybe
too many different color variations made too soon ? I like mine, but I think it was too expensive. That was the main reason I never purchased the clear orange even though it was my favorite.

Made in Japan, high quality, I would say it was Eastern.

I think the Ika is hard to classify (Frank does that a lot). What about the BxH labbit for that matter?
We have seen loads ofIka and Bomb colorways hit and it looks like people are kind of Kozik weary right now.

I bought a Black/Silver for $65 from a local retailer who got them from Wonderwall. Paid the same for a clear one sent to me from the US. But that's the most I would have paid for one. They're really nice figures, and the clear looks awesome filled with GID BBs!

tough to keep dropping $90 to $100 on a fig that just changes color vinyl. they need to be sprayed to regain interest. sb does it right with the vinyl and paint changes and they are cheaper per fig too. BOOM!

Just got the orange. It is the best by far and I don't think it can get better! Perfect hue, just the right shade to really show off all the detail and a beautiful clear orange.

I love the Japanese vinyl feel on the Ika's. Frank said they are made by the same people that do the blobpus, and dang it, I love my blobpus's!
It is hard to get turned on with China vinyl after Frank explained the difference!

Don't forget the black/silver. That one came out quite nicely.

i think people bought them because they were kozik pieces. then they got them, and they said "what the hell am i buying weird looking japanese figures for?" and tried to sell them off. i really like mine.
the best 3 so far have been the black, clear colorless, and clear purple. i have the green but i am not sure that i like that colorway very much. i might feel different once my orange shows up...those 2 should go well together

I like my one clear purple Ika.
Many of my friends have commented on what bugs them about it.
They say "It's too symetrical and geometrical like it was generated instead of hand sculpted."
and "A bit of sloppiness might have been nice."
and "The tentacles, they do nothing."

Those are very valid comments...it is a little too symmetrical but I love all the little detail on it. I don't know...I just like it. Only colorway that seemed kind of a waste was the opaque pea soup green but Paul took care of that!

I concur with the "too symmetrical" line of criticism. I just find it sort of boring. I would get tired of looking at in a few minutes.
I am finding myself much more attracted to more "organic" looking designs, more hand-made or hand-painted. Much of the traditional kaiju does this for me, but so do the bemons and the gogamezillas. They have a sense of whimsy and ambiguity to them - an implied story-line. You can imagine the artist forming the body, or applying the paint.
The Ikas are more just like a plastic object. They scream mass production, and they seem "blank" and unfeeling. To me anyway...

Have you been checkin' out any Dehara figures or art, Geo? Seems to meet these criteria...

Well, the Dehara pieces do fit the "organic" feeling criteria. I guess I am just not as attracted to the subplots Dehara has cooked up. I am going more for stuff that makes me feel good. Dehara doesn't do that for me.

i like my ikas cuz i love symmetry (hey peeps, tons of toys are symmetrical!) i love clear colored vinyl and.....
they make really cool minions. they may not be the most amazingly cool toys ever, but they somehow remind me of soldiers guarding the perimeter.
i like my toys to have lots of different personalities, and the Ika's have sort of a cold, calculating demeanor.
for me? they have their place.
thats my thoughts on the Ikas
what was Nichole's signature? "smile, they're toys!:
(psst, can't wait for the orange )

I find if you pose the Ika, it really brings it to life Twist and turn the head and tentacles, don't just leave it standing in a passport photo pose!

I liked it - it was just way too expensive for the size and number of pieces made. it was 2500 - 3000 yen figure priced at almost twice that much.

Isn't that still way cheaper than they are in the US? I don't have any, but I'm sure they go for 80-90 each.
