Post Another Christie's Auction
Punk/Rock, sale 2063, 11/24/08

Of particular interest are lots 124-152, including an HP Eyezon and Tripasu by Mark Nagata. Some Kozik stuff too, among other western-type toys. You guys with Kaws figures should start flipping if these hit their marks...

Also interesting for some punk rock flyers...hard to believe that something you peeled off of a wall in the 80's might be worth big bucks in the '00s...

Although, some of the "memorabilia" was featured in a prior auction and disappeared before the end of the sale---can't remember if that was discussed here or not...

I know that sales like this are anomalies in the world of vinyl, but it is interesting to see what people will pay for stuff..."sucker born every minute" theory at work...

so weird that if you had the bread you can buy:

kurt cobains' demo bass

which is pretty neat actually

&

madonnas' underpants!

which made me laugh thinking of the
strange folk who would want those.
i mean no offense but what the hell
would you do with them?

at least you could play the bass!

I'm sorry, but it just seems wrong to see punk rock flyers, shirts, etc - which in my formative years meant "anti-establishment" (seems silly now, I know) - being sold for thousands of dollars by an organization that's all about the almighty dollar. I guess the same could be said of a lot of art movements (Dada, for example) but this just hits a little close to home.

There's been discussion about Steve Agin working with the auction houses on Robot Japan:

Perhaps he's behind these as well?

three Luke Chueh toys for 2-3k? Huck Gee for 4.5k? makes a lot of the other stuff look like bargains.

how much would a kaws dissected normally go for?

Along the same lines who's the dude who pops up on our own board here now and again, asking any takers to part with anything rare or valuable for the Phillips auctions.

Just curious. I actually think it's kind of cool to see vinyl toys in these auctions.

I think the regular dissected is up around $1000 so that doesn't look so bad, but the Huck Gee are you fxxking kidding me :? :?: :!:

I actually have about half of the flyers in this auction including the Raymond Pettibone Black Flag one that is estimated at $4,500-$5,500.
And to think I was trying to give some of these away at one of the LASK gatherings... and no takers.

feel the same...I did sell all of my Misfits/Samhain/Danzig flyers to guy for a load of cash, a Misfits super collector...so I guess I'm a collaborator.
