Looking at this piece featured on the invite, I think I prefer the Smurfs.

So now he's throwing Al Held into the mix?

Al Held: Quattro

Odd that that's the only image from the show at the gallery site.

Toy fans might appreciate viewing some of David Levinthal's photographs archved at the site: http://www.geringlopez.com/artists/david-levinthal/

I love Al Held! I think seeing his paintings may have been the highlight to my NYC trip years ago.

I don't know if this has ever been talked about but the much maligned smurf and spongebob painting were commissioned pieces. That takes the weirdness out of them quite a bit for me. I'm in minority but I liked them regardless though

If this new or old? Either way I would stab several people for it:

Maybe the first ones were, but he's still using that iconography (and Simpsons characters) for his new noncomissioned work, including the current show at G&L. As of yesterday, the gallery had put a bunch more images up. As of this morning, they're back to only one ... weird. Anyway, there were paintings with Spongebob, Smurfs, bits and pieces of Crusty the Clown and so on in the current work.

Based on the background, I'd say it was new, but I'm uncertain.

I just checked this out today, Alot of the stuff from their website wasn't actually up at the gallery.

I don't know if those pieces had already been paid for and taken, but I would have thought the gallery would have kept all the work up throughout the show.

Looks like they are back up? Or maybe the navigation of the site just makes it hard to find.

All that stuff is old - surely that's not what is being shown?

I think you're right. I'd misunderstood back catalogue works to be from the current show.
