as fate would have it, the stars have re-aligned and my daughter has graduated to a higher Gymnastics class which starts an hour earlier. which means I can go to this Kindergarden fair earlier. I might just make it to lunch...!

Re: BASK Field Trip to Kimono My House November 8th Noon
Great day, met up at S7. New setup at the store looks nice. Picked up some stuff, thanks Alex. Lunch at On The Bridge, yummy food as always. Interesting conversations. We all got full and headed out to Kimono My House. Amazing little store. It's like a hidden treasure in the middle of nowhere in Emeryville. And the shop is on the roof of a 3 story building. Craziest thing. Here's a little sign they have by the sidewalk: The view from the roof: The entrance to the store: By the front door: This is what you see when you walk in: To the right: Straight ahead: To the left: I think Godzilla was playing on the TV: Amazing selection of tin wind-ups: The dreaded "Flying Baltan" Voted #1 "Most Hated" figure! Super rare in mint, unopened package! : My favorite Godzilla sculpt, too bad it was a Bandai reissue: The coolest thing (to me) in the store: It's a freaking Ultraman toilet seat cover and floor mat: Now this was the funniest thing in the store (too bad Halloween already passed): More pics here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fiendsaint ... 781979625/Sorry for the crappy pics, spaced and forgot my camera. Everything was taken by my phone. It was an amazing trip to this little store. It's kind of sad to see it closing shop. The owner and the guy working there were the coolest to talk to. Their selection of toys were mind blowing. Everywhere you look, there would be something interesting. There's also a Monster there. He's the cutest 30lb cat I've ever seen. Thanks to Daniel for setting this up and giving me a ride.

Re: BASK Field Trip to Kimono My House November 8th Noon
The owner overheard us talking about different iterations of Godzilla, and offered to show me a version from a recent Japanese movie that, he explained, really has nothing to do with Godzilla, but was a family drama in which Goji appears in one scene. He said "these are things that warm my heart." How many times, besides here on Skullbrain, do you hear an adult saying that a cameo by Godzilla warms their heart? Gotta love it. We went into the warehouse next door, and he showed me that scene ... serious destruction in Tokyo, the Tower falling in the background, people running around freaked out ... then suddenly, you see him. Although it was a CGI Goji, he had the look of "the man in the rubber suit." It was exceptionally well done. Does anyone know the title of this movie? It was released within the last few years, and hasn't been shown in the US or released to home video in the US. It would be worth getting for that one awesome scene.
What a great place KMH is! Within a minute, I was on "sensory overload." So many hidden treasures in there. You could pick up one interesting box, and lurking behind it would be another two brilliant toys. Lots of Marusan vinyls, still in bag, from various times in the last 15 years or so. Lots of crazy GeGeGe No Kitaro toys, Transformers and imitation Transformers, model kits, all the cool stuff shown in Joe's photos ... really overwhelming. The owner was very gracious and enthusiastic, and gave everyone who bought something a free gift. When I got home I realized that it's really sad that this place is closing, but at least he'll keep the Web store running.
Big thanks to Daniel for making this happen and to Bert for the ride. Great BASK day overall!

Re: BASK Field Trip to Kimono My House November 8th Noon
Thanks everyone that came along on the trip, and to Kirkland for coordinating things. Dean and Jeremy- good to finally meet you in person. KMH is one of those stores in which you can find something new every time you visit. We found the magic box of random sofubi in a back corner of the store, which had everything from $10 bootleggy Kamen Rider toys to $150+ robot sofubi, all wedged into a little cardboard fruit box. I found a little sofubi toy of the Phalanx from Macross- my favorite destroid! Some photos of the weird things around the entrance to the store: Rubber lizards... Darth Vader in a planter box... ... and one of the Jumbos of yesteryear. This is what sun does to your toys, kids.

Big thanks REdYOdA! That's it all right. I'll send the link to some friends who aren't into the toys, but love kaiju movies and Goji. Kirkland I had no idea you were field trip videographer! Great job, I had fun viewing.

Tee Hee! Sure! Is it this one? (say #1) or this one? (say #2) I'll try to convince Hubby to go with me soon--maybe this weekend? If we do go, I'll print out a copy of either picture #1 or #2 and ask for it (if I don't see it first!). Please let me know which one.
