 computer help/opinion needed
my hard drive crashed a month ago and was then replaced. A week after I got an error message, the screen was all blue with white font, similar to when it crashed but this time it was saying something different. I didn't do anything but reboot and things seemed fine. Then a couple of days ago I got the same error so I took it in. Anyway, all the details aside, I'm being told 2 full business days hasn't been enough time to perform all the diagnostics and they still don't know what's causing the error. All I want to know is could that be true, 2 days and the diagnostics still aren't done? or are they just taking their sweet time?

 Re: computer help/opinion needed
Sounds like to me when you had the hard drive replaced that one of the drivers was either not updated to the latest version or you have a bad driver for something. I had a very similar problem with a laptop that kept dying because my wireless card's drivers were not up to date when I replaced the hard drive.
As for 2 days, nah, it shouldnt take 2 days in my opinion. They are either dragging ass or they havent had time to get to it. Granted I dont know exactly what is wrong with the machine.

 Re: computer help/opinion needed
you nailed it, it has something to do with a driver and it only happened after they replaced the hard drive. Fucking idiots, I'm not happy about this. Thanks for the info I can't believe you were able to figure it out with such little info. So with that known they are def dragging ass huh? Or could they actually be stupid enough to need a few days to diagnose it(geek squad). Maybe I should go tell them what's wrong with it now and help them along... sigh
all in all how much work is invloved, about a 60 second download?

 Re: computer help/opinion needed
I've seen it happen enough, and from your description it seemed highly likely that's what it was. Usually whenever you've got a BSD showing up randomly, it's a driver, if it's consistently showing up it's a hardware issue...for the most part...the BSD is a mysterious beast. It's hard to say what's keeping them. I would really be surprised though if someone who knew what they were doing would take more than a few hours to fix it. 1 day maybe, but I guarantee it wouldn't take someone 2 days...if they knew what they were doing. Usually the BSD will tell you what was causing the error, in the event of a driver. But yeah, total fix time shouldn't be very long.

 Re: computer help/opinion needed
To my regret , I had the Geek Squad install an Ethernet card. It was for a company PC, I wasn't allowed to install it myself. Anyway; they installed it, in the wrong slot. I kind of feel sorry for the techs at Best Buy; they have to work with all that stereo equipment turned up full blast; and I don't think they get paid well. Anyway, they are probably backed up with holiday related installs and reduced staff. The local BB had an want ad for a GS tech. They required more Mac training than Microsoft skills; that may be part of their problem.
Slack, what operating system is it? XP? I may be able to help.
Good luck.

 Re: computer help/opinion needed
thanks Curtis, it is an XP
so I got it back yesterday and it had a major error within 5 min of use
even though the original error mentioned a driver and the employee agreed it was a driver issue, now they actually tried to tell me the reason it was acting up was because, "there were 31 infections" which I think is complete BS since I installed the latest version of Kaspersky after the new hard drive was installed and I don't even look at porn or any risky sites. So now I'm at a total loss and it's still having problems...

Send it over. I'll take a look at it. Slack wrote: I don't even look at porn or any risky sites.
