vintagevinyl wrote: remember, it doesnt have to be toys . now get to it ! OK, I went around the house today to take some pics of Japanese cultural icons which I thought you might like to see. This is Daikoku, the God of Wealth and one of Japan's seven lucky gods. I bought him for 10 bucks in 1978 or '79, dusty and dirty and way in the back of a wood carving shop in San Yi, Taiwan. Also from San Yi and carved from 24" solid wood, these are the two ancient "Benevolent Kings" door gods from Indian, Chinese and Japanese cultural history. These were also bought in Taiwan in the late seventies, and are patterned after the twin NIŌ Gods I've seen on display in Japan at the Daibutsuden Todai-ji temple in Nara and the Senso-ji temple in Asakusa Tokyo. These are the famous Red and White Lion kabuki dancers. My mom and dad got them in Tokyo while stationed there with the Air Force in the mid-50's. So they are somewhere around 55 years old. Even though these are not vinyl, I hope you liked this short review of a few other Japanese items in my collection!

Not vinyl, but two of my mostest favoritist toys ever. The little guy will balance on anything. The bird is on a spring and has a bell. Bring him to the top of the wire and let go and he bobs and rings all the way down. The base is marked "Japan."

Jeff, that fixture is amazing. What's the story on that? How'd you acquire it?

Man, Jeff that fixture is incredible! What a score...very retro sci-fi looking, and I love that it has the crosses on it.

Re: hijack this thread please !
Oh I wish it was mine, there's 4 of them that hang in the main room of a church my daughter goes to kindergarten in. Pretty big too, like a 6 foot circle...the church I went to as a kid was built in 1962 and has the sweeping tiki roof and light fixtures like this one. My own house is a 1957 California ranch, which is quite cold in Ohio with all the glass...here's a pic of the back, the front looks like a plain L shaped ranch...the beams were painted white when I bought the house!! Solid Fir beams, there was an unpainted one in the garage... I really dig the whole atomic ranch stuff, sometime I want to get a flickr set of local gems. Theres an office building I drive by everyday with 3 huge George Nelson bubble lamps, mosaic walls etc. I love that stuff and a lot of it seems to be getting torn down.

Re: hijack this thread please !
Yes, very Joseph Eichler. Very cool, mid century modern is a good thing. Too bad the glass is single pane (so is ours). I am sure there has to be a few modernists out there in Ohio! Looking for furniture out there is great and affordable when found. Especially Knoll and Herman Miller office pieces.
Alife, those are great looking toys. SO cheap and So rad. Blow Molded plastic?
