Right now I'm listening to the Kanye's 808, a bunch of lil wayne mixtapes, Ludacris Theatre of the mind. Does the new T-Pain count? Love all of those.

haha, no way! Missy Elliot is a bad-ass. Her videos are crazy, but she looks like she's having a blast. She and Dave Meyers have some really interesting, colorful, and fun ideas. I wish the whole thug/gangsta BS would hurry up and die so we can have some fun again.

Some of the brandnew T-Pain tracks have intense production, the bonus track 'Created A Monster' is especially high tech. Ludacris almost always delivers dope bars.

i have to agree with vombie on this,,i especially love the bonus tracks/dance segments that are on the tailend of almost all her videos...alot of the time they are better than the main video...

Factory and 4AD were 2 of my favorite labels. Their music was cool and their album covers were awesome. I just hate it cause they were all coming at a time when money was pretty tight (student years). I'd love to go to a record shop and just buy the albums even though I don't have a turntable to play them on.
I completely forgot about Nitzer Ebb...and a whole host of others that I can't remember. Chemical Brothers and Crystal Method really go me going into that whole techno/electronic music. I usually try to find out what bands were listening to before they started. It's a great thing to do and opens up other doors to some great music.

I don't fully understand why I have such an allergic reaction to her. Her so-called brilliance is lost on me. Even though I do recognize that her style (both musically and visually) is very unique, it 'reads' with me as very fake and manufactured and calculated. WHo knows...maybe you lock me in a room with nothing but a stack of her cds and I might come out loving her, but I hear her on TV or see some of the spastic herky-jerky choreography in her videos, and I *dive* for that remote.

Post Re: Hip-Hop or not
All time classics for me would be- all Prince Paul productions, PE, Eric B, Pharcyde, Ice-T, Roxanne Shante (still rockin it), Tribe, EPMD, Stetsasonic, Jungle Brothers, Gang Starr, Cookie Crew.

Also into old Electro stuff even back in the late 70's. Afrika Baambaata, Fearless Four, The B-Boys, Base Patrol, Cutmaster DC, Mantronix, Arthur Baker, Dynamix II, The Jonzun Crew, Cli-N-Tel, Man Parrish, Sparkee Dee, Egyptian Lover...

And not forgetting the UK with Cookie Crew, The Sindecut, Cold Cut, Ritchie Rich (part Gee Street owner), Bomb Da Bass, Neneh Cherry, Derek B, and newer artists like Roots Manuva, The Herbaliser, Ugly Duckling, Dj Format, Abdominal and may underground artists and labels...and the whole trip hop - MoWax movement. Also Japan with the whole Jazz hip hop scene!

I think I stopped listening to "hip hop" around 2003 (I liked Rappers I Know website in 06 with a few new artists but focused on other music). There was a great moment in recent history from 97-02? with Rawkus Records, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Dj Shadow, Cut Chemist, J5, Invisib Skratch Piklz, Blackalicious, Peanut Butter Wolf and his label, Controller 7, Dj Yoda, Little Brother, MC Paul Barman, Rahzel, Lateef, Kid Koala, Lyrics Born, The Roots, T-Love.....

Fav djs: Paul Nice, Cut Chemist, A-Trak, Nu-Mark, Z-Trip, Cold Cut, Spinbad, Yoda, X-Ecutioners (X-Men), Kid Koala, Madlib....

Listening to the new Q-Tip.

Nice selection of electro artists...

Been listening to the 2nd Newcleus LP "Space Is The Place" lately. Such great electro funk album.
Love the live sound.

Heres a few other favorites...

I'll be seeing Kraftwerk live on Friday 5th December. I cannot wait!!! A dream come true.

Hashim and Nucleus is the shit. I also have the remix 12" of Jam on This with new remixes. Not bad but I prefer the original. I haven't seen that Paul Hardcastle cover before. I only have the album with the white cover. Have you seen this? :D

Kraftwerk live. Damn, that would be amazing.

This is the only Hardcastle album i have. Has songs you would have heard before. King Tut, Rainforest, Moon Hopper
I think the one you are talking about is "Zero One" ? That's a great album.
It came out same time as S/T. Mines the US release yours is the UK/German release. Slightly different track listing.
Your version is way better for straight up instrumental electro. The S/t version has a few vocal guests, sill good though.

Funny, When it came out, a friend bought the "Zero One" Hardcastle album the same night i bought the "Space Is The Place" Newcleus LP
Never saw another copy ever again. We used to buy an album each every month or so, record it on cassette and swap tapes. We did that for years.

Wow, Never Seen the clip. Crazy.

That is funny to hear as I use to do that for my friends too. We use to swap using cassettes and also record music videos and swap them as well. When Rage was playing all night back in Sydney we use to take turns to stay up in case they had a retrospective of a certain kind of music or bands which were family. One night they had all old school rap, to 80's hip hop.

I found an amazing site where this guy has converted his whole record collection to mp3 for free download. I'll PM you the link.

Balkan Beat Box, a NYC-based band comprised of members of Gogol Bordello and (I can't remember what other outifts) is hot, hot, hot right now. Their album Nu-Med is well worth a spin, although people say it can't match the energy of the live shows. No sampling! Everything you hear is played live including the "ethnic" singing from around the world. It may not be oldskool or even consistently hip-hop per se, but it's definitely a descendant, and hopefully points the way for more of the same world fusion that isn't lame. Strongly recommended if you like trip hop, reggaeton, the better sort of "world beat" etc. Pretty hard to categorize, but excellent.

Post Re: Hip-Hop or not
maybe someone can help me find a song:
i was listening to a TC radio station on my way home from work, and this really kick ass hip-hop track came on. All I can explain out of it is that the word 'hiccups' is in the chorus. i know that's kinda vague, but i'm guessing not to many newer songs have this word as the backbone of its hook.
i checked the playlist on the website, but the only hip-hop songs around that time frame is Public Enemy's Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos and Heiruspecs' Get Up. I know both those songs, and they ain't it....
