 Aussie says what?
Well I gotta say you guys in the U.S. have alot of holidays. I notice this because everytime you have one I recieve SALE emails from toy stores in the U.S. .
Over here our holidays are xmas and easter and I suppose the kids enjoy their holidays that come another 2 times apart from that. We also have a number of long weekends too (aahh we love a long weekend). But It seems like you guys have a holiday every 2nd week. Valentines, halloween, thanksgiving, etc any more? Im a bit jealous in a way, It seems like a very cosy sort of get up you got goin on over there . Im sure I would like it but I also think it would wear me out.
Um... yeah, not sure why I said that... oh well happy thanks giving whatever that is.. All i know is it involves a lot of poor bloody turkeys.

The US does have a lot of holidays. But it's nothing compared to Japan. WTF is Sports Day? And then Golden Week? Serious!? A whole week off? And who splits Valentines Day into two?

 Re: Aussie says what?
you would think it would wear out, but than again, usually, most of these holidays involve paid days off from work. with that in mind, i could still go for a couple more! i actually worked at a place once that paid for Martin Luther King, Jr. day off! or, double time if you were scheduled to work it....

It's true about Japan, it was odd living there and having all these "holidays"....Sea day? What? Hey it means school is canceled...oh ok. Actually sports day originally was on the anniversary of the opening ceremonies of the Tokyo Olympics. They changed it to a specific monday in october, so it would always mean a 3 day weekend.

 Re: Aussie says what?
Not everything is a "holiday" (ie valentines, halloween, all the "fill in the blank" days). Thanksgiving came about b/c we were the penal colony without all the creatures full of teeth & poison

 Re: Aussie says what?
I get paid hourly, not salary. So when I had two days off this past week, it's pretty much going to suck for the next pay period. Non-paid Holidays off suck.

 Re: Aussie says what?
We need those forced holidays. The US is one of the countries with the least number of vacation days in the "developed world" (tied with Canada, I believe), especially compared to European countries.
Although, the developed world also has more jobs that pay well, so I guess I can't really complain.

 Re: Aussie says what?
Only if you work for the federal government or an institution that follows federal holidays will you get most holidays off. Unfortunately for me I still have to go to work during Veteran's Day and other not so major holidays. The one plus about this is the drive to work is easier than normal work days due to less traffic. =\

I was in a shopping center somewhere and I saw an old lady working behind a Wendy's or something like. I mean she was old. That always stuck in my head. The welfare and health system scares me. Australia seems to be slowly following the lead unfortunately.
