Buff has made awesome customs with his style and has earned the right to have his work shown on here. Why is it okay for some american artists to be influenced by kaiju and not others?

...because it usually ends up in stuff like dummies, another american take on japanese toys.

Buff is a art design student first. He started out wheat pasteing the streets of L.A. He should of stuck with that. I liked seeing his paste-ups Then he started painting flat spray paint cans and nailing them up around town. That stuff was cool to me also. He then went on to do paintings and silkscreens for gallery shows. Now he makes designs for his toys. I liked the first series of 3'' figures from mindstyle. He has some cool designs but the repetative work is boreing to me. His new series of 3'' figures are "kaiju" inspired. I really hate these figures he is just trying to cash in in my opinion. I wish he would just stick to his roots and bomb with wheat paste.

*ping* seems you hit the nail on the head there.

I agree. I was stoked when his first set of 3.5" figs came out and the 8". I drove to LA and picked them up. Loved his work on streets and it was a must have for me. Then the same stuff keeps coming out. simple plain colorways and nothing new than an extra eye or some horns. And the amount of it that has come out. another set of the 3.5" (that lacked good design, kaiju inspired *bleh*), 2 sets of the minis, all the 8" and the larger ones. Got boring and this new attempt at a kfgu fig is not impressing me much either. Thought it was kinda cool at first and it just keeps sinking further back in my mind everytime i see it.

I'm not afraid to admit that I really like a few of the KFGU figures, as they were my gateway drug into this whole thing, but it's getting to the point that there's far more crap in the line than worthwhile or interesting things. I wish they would reconsider things or just wrap it up. This just looks like most of Buff's other stuff, which I'm not into, although I have liked the customs he's done.

Putting this in the same category as unchi-kun is insulting.

Rage= NO. Anthrax + Public Enemy = 1 song, so OK.

Rage against what machine?
I like machines.
I think the liner notes from filter's first album (and only one that should've come out) put it best.

Rage = YES. As for Anthrax, I thought 'I'm the Man' was great, too. Hilarious!

No no you get the same card this year.
Hey, if you don't like it, you don't like it.

The factory is the same Japanese factory making the Kaiju toys you seem to love,
and these are sculpted by the same guys from Japan you love and know so well, too,
so I assume it's the word "Kaiju" or "bad" design which makes the sour note.

Post Re: KFGU: Buff Monster
Got mine in the mail today, the vinyl smells great and the quality on the paint is good. The clear vinyl has a slight yellow tinge to it but not bad at all. Can't really see it going farther than in clear pink and white vinyl without the sculpt getting tired. As far as this series goes I think it is a close as any of the american artists have come to kaiju on a totally original figure. Was also surprised to see the arms move, thought it would be all one piece.

If you like Buff Monster or drippy, sludgy monsters, you would like this figure in hand. If you strictly like hardcore old school stuff or new boutique fight style japanese vinyl it might not be your deal. You just got to get past the KFGU label, it looks more like a japanese figure with american influence than the other way around. I never collected KR/american designer vinyl but from what I have seen this doesn't fit in with that stuff, even the mindstyle series he has done. I'd like to see the winged guys made. :D

Looked that way in the pics. I think that's why I'm waiting to see if a pink, white, silver, even black version of the fig gets made. Glad to hear it looks good in person...

Buff needs to get one or two of these sludge/drip monster paintings in giclées, as well.

Post Re: KFGU: Buff Monster
It would have been nice if it had a header card that he made as well. The KGFU isn't competitive enough compared to the rest of the market. For the cost, low runs and what they are doing they need to step up and go beyond, like custom headers signed by the artists or some extra goodies like stickers, bandanas bla bla, maybe all that stuff. The fact that there is no flow to the line since its just various artists own pieces is all the more reason the company should be going an extra mile, in that sense the company falls short. A vinyl producing company called in the yellow making slightly yellow vinyl is ironic, but not the best name for them hahaha. It just comes down to liking the particular artist or piece. In the yellow is really at fault for all that stuff though and in my opinion they need to be going above and beyond more than any other brands catering just to the artist and their fans to even have a chance. They have no brand loyalty so they really need to keep the particular artists fans in mind, and they don't even come close.

This figure rocks though, it looks chunkier in person and Buff did a great job on it. Antler ones would be awesome, that goofy SB figure had antlers, so it can be done.

Stuff like this is why you rarely find me in the American Idols section. It's become some direct link to KR.....
