Post FORREST J. ACKERMAN, editor of FAMOUS MONSTERS, passes away!
The world's first (and greatest) science fiction/horror/fantasy fan, also known as Uncle Forry and "Mr. Sci-Fi", slipped off of this Mortal Coil last night, December 4, 2008:

I only hope he lands on some planet packed with monsters, ray guns, and savage, sex-starved beautiful women in the afterlife where he can be King!

RIP Forry!

My kid bro and I were Famous Monsters fanatics. Thanks for the memories, you wonderfully eccentric man.

I would have loved to see his place when it was in full effect. I was just watching some documentary about him on TV the other day, what an awesome guy.

This is sad news, but not surprising. I know he has not been well. We were lucky enough to make it out at his house earlier this year, and he still had a sharp sense of humor, and a fabulous outlook on things. He had some fabulous stories and jokes for us all. He was kind and seemed excited to have his house full of people who appreciated his stuff.

Sad to see he is gone. Famous Monster magazine was a staple of mine as a kid. That's cool all you guys met him.

Search around on Ain't It Cool for memories from Rick Baker, Phil Tippet, and others. Here's my own little tribute: http://augustragone.blogspot.com

Man, that is really a drag. I was a total FM nut as a kid, and his enthusiasm (and remarkable sense of humor) were a huge part of that. Janet and I were lucky enough to see him at SDCC a couple of years ago, and I was totally in awe. It must have been a thrill to hang out at his house with him.

In related, but equally depressing news, the fantastic Beverly Garland passed away as well.

Hopefully she and Forry are laughing and swapping Roger Corman stories somewhere.

Really sad. The day we visited was so awesome and he really seemed to be having a blast. In person he was kind, funny, super sharp. And needless to say, he had amazing collection of stuff (which he was thrilled to share with people). Amazing guy. He redefined "class" for me.
