LOL, the only thing that bothers me is the drop in quality in the paint work over the last 6 months or so. Compare the pink GID Chaos standard size with the mini figure. The standard has a beautiful design with subtle spray. The mini is a heavy handed mask job that actually made me and my GF cringe when we saw it in person. Then I started comparing other recent RxH figures with older releases and saw a pattern. Kind of sad, but it is what it is.

I think its time for a "shocked and outraged" letter to mori...

But seriously, yeah that does stink, I can see what you mean. Would you definitely say its a change across the board, or just a handful of new releases that have this heavy handed paint app?

Maybe its mori taking RxH in a new direction.... RxH mk. 2

=)

phil

oh, wild pictures btw.

It's not an across the board thing, but a number of releases, especially in the last 2-3 months, have been this way. Two more that come to mind are the metallic black Head and mini/orange GID Jinja-R. Both gorgeous designs let down by super heavy spray. But the GID mini chaos takes the cake. Not sure if there's something going on with the "factory" painters or if it's just a streak of flukes...

Here's my POV. If Mori went back to painting the figures himself, I'd gladly pay 7000-8000 yen a pop. A number of other designers - Ilanena, Cronic, Monstock, etc all do their own painting, so it's not such a stretch. Sure, the production volume would go down, and there would be fewer releases. Wait, is that such a bad thing?

Well if you're not into the spray on the mini GID Chaos, you can pass it on to me

From your pic, I can see what your saying. The normal/original Chaos looks MUCH more subtle/nice vs. the mini (though I still want the mini) and that's just from a pic, wonder how much more so in hand?

for people living outside of Japan/Walking/reasonable driving distance to S7 store...yes.

that GID mini chaos looks gross compared to the standard one--neither are really my thing, but I see what you mean.

I actually like how the mutant head was done. I don't have to turn on all the lights to see the colors. If Mori did the same colorway on GID vinyl, I'd hope that it wasn't as heavy.

I'm not extremely stoked about the direction RxH seems to be going in either as far as the paint apps go (shorts masking does get boring), so I'm hoping that next year, we'll see more free-hand paint apps. So far, I'm really happy with the figures in my collection (and most of them are from the last year).

In any case, it seems like Mori has a lot going on with running a shop, a flood of new figs each month, collabs, and doing the family thing. I can' t be mad at him. I think his new approach isn't too bad.

ha, maybe Mori was looking at his collection and said, "2008 can't have more of the same". maybe he was getting bored and just wanted to try something new. maybe the masking bit is really exciting for him right now.

just looking at these pics again, and i think i really like that clear one. except i wouldn't classify it as a "pinkie." i mean, it's got pink on it. but so does the cover of ween's quebec, and i wouldn't classify that a pink album cover. sorry for my pointless ramble. anyways, thanks alot for causing that rxh ulcer to start its growth cycle in the pit of my stomach....
