I do feel that the Blair Witch sequel diminished the impact of the original. they even made Kubricks for the sequel. WTF?!

I really enjoyed the first Saw film, and now Lions Gate has just run it into the ground and made it into another bland, heartless horror franchise that just churns out a sub-standard sequel every year to make money. the storyline is so stupid and convoluted at this point, it's so ridiculous.

Suppose some of you have heard about this. It's been in planning for about 5 years and JJ beat him to it.

George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead

From IMDB

"it begins as a fully cut together documentary about what these students went through for the first few days of the outbreak. The movie has narration, and is told through a variety of cameras, security cameras, self phones, news footage…this makes for an already very interesting watch."

What do people think about this one???

I think it's going to be seen by some as an attempt to copy Cloverfield, but those people won't be smart enough to figure out that these films came out within a couple of weeks of each other.

I've heard that the movie is not good, though.

I'm going to see it on NYC on Wednesday. Uncle George is hosting it.

While Romero's name carries no cachet with me any more, I think (from what I've read, at least) that this could be OK. Full report after the screening, Rog!

1st, I'm a big Romero fan. BUT I don't think he's done anything good for decades. "Land..." was just ok, but I laughed more AT it than with it.

I'll still see this though, looks like it might be ok and George deserves the movie money more than a lot of hacks.

I am thrilled the hear a sequel is coming. BECAUSE, Abrams has proven himself to be able to carry intrigue over between entire seasons of television series. I'm sure a movie he is producing will exhibit this same quality -- a gradual unfolding, with twists and turns. Freaking awesome.

yeah, Romero is actually another example of a guy who just keeps beating a dead horse and all he's doing in my opinion by trying to "continue the storyline" is just water down the impact of his older films.

every time these people make more and more sequels, they have to "outdo" the last one so the plots just get more ridiculous and over the top and not even in a good way.

they get to be like soap operas, like you thought this person died but they really didn't and then the main character in the new movie turns out to be the long lost sister of the girl from the first movie etc. etc.

I really like a lot of bad movies, but not really bad sequels to good movies.

and I don't think Abrams has proven himself with any kind of consistency over television seasons.

that Lost shit should have been done at the end of Season 2, tops. American TV needs to take a lesson from foreign countries and just have finite series. they have so much more impact. instead, of course, we try to drag it out as long as it can go and in the process just pull it through the mud (The X-Files is a prime example of that. think of how crazy solid it would have ended if they would have cut it a few season in?)

As I understand the director of the Cloverfield sequel is Matt Reeves, not Abrams.

I've avoided "Lost" until now because I thought it looked fake-smart and annoying and too much like a reality show. Intrigued by how much I liked "Cloverfield," I've been watching "Lost" starting with season one via iTunes purchases this past week. I'm pretty impressed. I had no idea that there was this psychological/mystical/magical thing going on. I can totally see "roots of Cloverfield" and I'm only about five episodes into the first season so far. I can also see why people say it's the smartest thing on TV, although it's still, you know. TV.

Agreed, I don't remember it being that light in the movie.

Includes Statue of Liberty head accessory, heh.

The closing theme "Roar" is available on iTunes. 99 cents for 12 minutes of Ifukube-esque goodness.

Yeah... looks like Hasbro trying to do a McFarlane but botching up the sculpt and paint. Those joints are really obvious, and to me detract from the figure's look. I could see that selling for $40, but $100?

To me it looks like the sculpt is okay, but they just quit on the paint apps at the last minute. It seems like there was some kind of crunch and they decided to ship them before they were fully "baked" (which is entirely possible given what's been going on in China this year).

I think in general the sculpt is decent, I'm just not a fan of visible pins and clunky joints. I can understand the necessity of that in a figure with 70 (!!!) points of articulation, but there are other companies out there doing it better, in my opinion. Personally I tend to value sculpt over poseability anyway.

Tha paint app is pretty much a mess... that wash looks really strange just on the bottom half of the figure.

Does anyone else think it was a poorly designed creature in general? I thought it looked pretty stupid in the movie, and even dumber as a toy.

I loved the design, it was different. Reminded me of the Rat-Bat-Spider in a couple of scenes.

Too bad a Japanese company hasn't stepped up and produced an Ultra Kaiju-sized vinyl of it.

+1 to a ultra Kaiju-sized vinyl of it.

I also think it doesn't look like a $100 figure.

I agree. I was let down at the reveal of the creature.

I agree. I was let down at the reveal of the creature.

And the creators were so excited about how cool the creature was.

I like the design because it doesn't try to make it a "design." I mean that in the sense of, it looks organic. Like it COULD be a real animal, just a weird one. They didn't try and make it look "bad ass" or anything, kinda goofy and awkward, but not totally un-realistic in a sense.

I think something that walked on 2 legs or dinosaur-esque would have let me down more. I mean it works for classic kaiju stuff, but that's a whole different deal.
